Erin Van Der Meer

Erin Van Der Meer is an Australian travel writer based in New York City. Erin discovered her knack for story telling as a magazine writer and online news editor in Sydney, Australia, where she worked for publications including Cosmopolitan and The Daily Mail. Desk jobs didn’t allow enough time for travel, though, so she quit, sold or gave away most of her belongings, and left Australia to travel long-term.

After spending eight months backpacking through Mexico, Guatemala, Belize, Cuba, Colombia, Peru, and the United States, Erin settled in NYC in 2016 and began a full-time freelance writing career. She writes mostly about the US and Mexico with a special interest in women’s stories. Being Australian, Erin is a beach, coffee, and breakfast snob. Her most treasured travel memories include hiking in Peru’s Cordillera Blanca mountains, spending four days in a canoe in the Amazon, and watching the sunset on the Malecon in Havana, Cuba.

  • Erin's writing has appeared in The Daily Beast, ELLE, Cosmopolitan, MyDomaine, and Jetsetter
  • She has backpacked through Mexico, Guatemala, Belize, Cuba, Colombia, Peru, and the United States
  • Erin has written for TripSavvy since May 2018

Erin has held staff positions at Cosmopolitan and The Daily Meal. You can also find her work at online publications like The New York Times, Elle Australia, Grazia, Qantas, POPSUGAR, Jetsetter, MyDomaine, and HuffPost.

Erin has her Bachelor's in communication and media studies from Griffith University.
