Unfortunately, unless you speak Spanish, you're going to struggle to understand what's going on, as they dub most foreign films in Spain. Rumor has it that it stems from the days of Franco's dictatorship - dubbed films were easier to censor - but there is no excuse today. Luckily, you can find English language films in Original Version movie theaters (cine version original in Spanish), though these can only be found in the larger cities. Movie Watching in Spain Wednesday is "Dia del Espectador." Nearly all movie theaters (if not all) offer reduced entry prices. Get your tickets early as there are always long lines as people try to snap up a ticket. Sunday night is movie night in Spain, and there are always extremely long lines outside a movie theater on a Sunday night, so this night is best avoided. Movies in the original language tend to be on the more arty side, though we did see The Incredibles in English. Remember, these are not 'English language movie theaters' but 'original version movie theaters', so a movie in Chinese, French, or Arabic will be in Chinese, French, or Arabic (with Spanish subtitles) and not in English! Some of these movie theaters show some dubbed movies and some in the original version. They will usually show a prominent sign that says 'VO' or 'Version Original' on the movie poster. Sometimes, particularly in Catalonia, it will say VOSE, meaning 'Version Original Subtilada en Español' to differentiate it from a film dubbed in Catalan (or, in other parts of Spain, Basque or Galician).
