The Elvis Presley Birthday Celebration is big fun at Graceland in Memphis. In 2016 a new exhibit will debut while some old favorite events return to help celebrate what would have been the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll’s 81st birthday on Jan. 8.

Thursday, Jan. 7:

New Elvis in Hollywood VIP Exhibit:

The new 2016 VIP exhibit, “Elvis in Hollywood: From Teen Idol to Leading Man,” opens at 9 a.m. Jan. 7 at Graceland.

The exhibit will highlight Elvis Presley’s time on the silver screen featuring artifacts from Hollywood movies such as “Love Me Tender,” “Loving You” and “Viva Las Vegas.”

The Auction at Graceland:

At 7 p.m. at the Graceland Archives Studio fans and collectors will have the opportunity to participate in an onsite and online auction, which will feature artifacts authenticated by Graceland Authenticated. All of the items are offered from third-party collectors. Admission is by ticket only, which will be available for purchase at Graceland on Jan. 7.

Club Elvis:

From 8 p.m. to 11 p.m. at the Elvis Presley Car Museum a private party filled with Elvis fans will feature DJ Alex Ward spinning Elvis records for listening and dancing. A cash bar will feature adult beverages and soft drinks. Tickets are $25.

Friday, Jan. 8:

Elvis Birthday Proclamation Ceremony:

At 9:30 a.m. on the Graceland North Lawn a free ceremony with Graceland and Elvis Presley Enterprises officials will feature a birthday cake cutting and a proclamation of Elvis Presley Day by Memphis and Shelby County officials.

The event can be watched via livestream.

Birthday Cake and Coffee:

At 10:30 a.m. in the Chrome Grille in Graceland Plaza visitors can enjoy complimentary birthday cake and coffee.

Lowell Hayes Trunk Show:

From 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Gallery Elvis will be a trunk show featuring jeweler Lowell Hays, the creator of Elvis’ famous TCB ring.

Official Graceland Insiders Reception and Graceland Tour:

From 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. this special birthday event is reserved exclusively for members of the Official Graceland Insiders. The event includes a private evening tour of Graceland decorated for the holidays plus a reception in Graceland Plaza. The progressive event will include the airplanes, Elvis Presley Car Museum, Graceland Archives Experience and Sincerely Elvis.

Saturday, Jan. 9:

Fan Club Presidents’ Event:

From 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Graceland Archives Studio Elvis fans will celebrate the work of Elvis Presley fan clubs during this event with special presentations. Pianist Glenn Derringer, who performed on the same Dorsey Brothers Stage Show in 1956 where Elvis made his TV debut, will share his story of meeting Elvis. Former beauty queen June Juanico, who dated Elvis in 1955 and 1956. Tickets are $20.

Hound Dog Tour: A Musical City Tour Celebrating Elvis by Backbeat Tours:

At 1:30 p.m., a tour departs from Backbeat Tours window at BB King’s Blues Club at 143 Beale St. The Elvis tribute tour takes a one-of-a-kind approach to share Elvis’ legacy in a high-energy concert and sightseeing tour all rolled into one. The special two-hour tour also includes an optional visit inside the Presley family apartment at Lauderdale Courts.

The Founders Show and Tell:

At 4 p.m. at the Graceland Archives Studio will be an invitation-only event to see a special presentation at pieces from the Graceland Archives.

Love Me Tender: The Great Elvis Love Songs:

At 7:30 p.m. at Cannon Center for the Performing Arts singer and musician Terry Mike Jeffrey joins the Memphis Symphony Orchestra singing Elvis hits.

Sunday, Jan. 10:

At 10 a.m. the special tour departs from Backbeat Tours window at BB King’s Blues Club. The special Elvis sightseeing tour is a high-energy concert on wheels and lasts three hours.
