  • Elissa Hunter is a freelance writer covering travel.
  • A Navy brat, Elissa was born in Hawaii and grew up in California, Japan, and Florida.
  • Now based in Brooklyn, Elissa is a city girl at heart but still loves a good day (or week, or month) at the beach.

Elissa’s first professional job was as an associate editor for Business Travel News, focusing on corporate meetings and ground transportation. She then spent more than a decade as a copy editor and proofreader and now works as an assistant production editor at a scientific publisher. She has traveled to several countries, often by herself, and is always dreaming about her next adventure. Her work has been published in Telegraph Travel.

Elissa has a bachelor's degree in journalism from the University of Florida, an MLIS degree from Pratt Institute, and no idea how she ended up with two science degrees.
