El Salvador Drinks: Popular El Salvador drinks are varied and creative. Atol de Elote is a Mayan beverage made of corn, water, sugar and cinnamon. Horchata -- a rice or morro seed-based beverage flavored with cinnamon -- is widely enjoyed in El Salvador.

Other characteristic non-alcoholic beverages in El Salvador include Kolachampan, a sugarcane-flavored soda; tamarind juice; and ensalada ("salad"), a drinkable blend of finely chopped tropical fruits.

For the ultimate fresh fruit experience, scope out a coconut water vendor at the side of the road. They'll chop off the top and serve it with a straw.

The most popular El Salvador beer is Pilsener.
