Time and Distances from Reno to Attractions in the West

TripSavvy / Alisha McDarris

Reno is centrally located for driving to many major national parks and attractions in the West. Because Reno is adjacent to California and Nevada is a large state, these trips can be long and take hours (or days) of driving time to reach most of these destinations. Before hitting the road, consider traffic, road conditions and weather when planning a driving trip to any of these places in western North America.

The routes mapped out generally follow major highways. Your results will undoubtedly vary due to factors like weather, road conditions, traffic, construction zones, and personal driving habits.

When in doubt, give yourself plenty of time to reach these destinations.

Main Highways from Reno

Interstate 80 (I-80) is the main and most direct east-west route from Reno and over the Sierra Nevada mountains to California. Continuing east, I-80 takes you all the way to Chicago.

U.S. 395 is the primary north-south highway passing through Reno. The highway begins at the Canadian border in Washington and goes all the way to a southern California intersection with I-15 in the Mojave Desert, almost to Mexico. In the Reno area, it is called the Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial Freeway.

I-80 and U.S. 395 cross at the downtown Reno interchange known locally as the Spaghetti Bowl.
