The city is a historical seaport and the state capital of Maryland. Route 50 begins in Washington DC as New York Avenue and becomes a multi-lane highway as it moves to the east. After passing by Annapolis, Route 50 crosses the Chesapeake Bay Bridge taking visitors to the Maryland Eastern Shore.
