The Dominican Republic is the Caribbean's undisputed leader when it comes to all-inclusive resorts, with more than two dozen all-inclusive properties ranging from budget to luxury. Many of these all-inclusive resorts are in locations like Punta Cana and Puerto Plata and are operated by Spanish hotel companies like Riu, Sol Melia, and Barcelo, but you'll also find familiar names like Wyndham, with more U.S. brands on the way.

    Located on a reef-protected beach with a neighboring lagoon, the Club Med Punta Cana has 519 brightly decorated and family friendly rooms, poolside and beachfront restaurants, 14 hard-court tennis courts (nine lit for night play), a Circus School for kids and adults, and a variety of fitness and wellness programs.

    Located in La Romana, the Dreams La Romana (formerly Sunscape Casa del Mar) is a high-rise resort with many scheduled activities and entertainment options, a kids club, seven restaurants and seven bars. Food, fruit juices and soft drinks, and activities included. The famed Casa de Campo golf club at Bayahibe is about a half-hour away. The 751 rooms include ocean or garden views, and ​ocean front suites are available as well.​

    Dreams Palm Beach, par is a 500-room resort on the east coast of the Dominican Republic, with three pools, including one for children. The resort boasts eight international gourmet restaurants and five bars serving unlimited premium brand beverages and is a quick jump-off point for many local excursions, including golf, for which this area of the Dominican Republic is famous. This resort also has children-specific activities with two clubs for two different age groups.

    This resort has a huge free-form swimming pool, spa with spa garden, and seven restaurants, including an adults-only French dining room. Unlike many all-inclusives, Dreams Punta Cana includes premium drinks in its "Unlimited Luxury" room rate; other amenities include a fitness center, broad variety of water sports, kids club, and nightly entertainment. The Preferred Club adds private check-in, free internet access, and other premium services.

    This luxury all-inclusive resort and spa offers no-reservation dining at a choice of 7 restaurants, 24-hour room service, two pools and outdoor jacuzzis, a jogging course, lighted tennis courts and a squash court, and a casino. Unlike most all-inclusives, horseback riding is included in the price, although scuba diving and spa services (but not yoga and other classes) are extra.

    Located about 20 minutes from the Puerto Plata airport, the Be Live Collection Marien (formerly Grand Oasis Marien) offers 332 rooms in four classes, including oceanview rooms and suites. The all-inclusive package includes free drinks at the resort's sports bar and other restaurants and bars. Activities include aerobic and Latin dance classes, mini-golf, windsurfing and kayaking, diving, and tennis on lighted clay courts.

    This 467-room hotel on the Punta Cana beachfront (formerly Grand Oasis Punta Cana) has a piano, cigar, theater and sports bars, a trio of a la carte restaurants, nightly family films, and is located just minutes from the area's golf courses (not included, but discounts offered). All meals, drinks, and motorless sports are included.

    This 504-room Punta Cana resort (formerly Grand Paradise Bavaro) promises four-star accommodations and service; it has the usual array of land and water sports included but also free bicycle rentals and horseback riding (nonmotorized water sports limited to one hour per day; motorized water sports and dive tours extra). In addition to the main buffet restaurant, the Grand Paradise Bavaro has Chinese and Italian eateries. The resort also boasts an 18-hole championship golf course.

    Hard Rock International and Palace Resorts opened the Hard Rock chain’s first all-inclusive resort in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic in 2010. This 121-acre property includes 1,800 rooms and a massive, 4,800-square-foot casino, the largest in the Dominican. The Hard Rock Hotel & Casino also has 12 swimming pools, 13 restaurants, seven watering holes and a Jack Nicklaus-designed golf course.  If you have the money, indulge by booking the Rock Star Suite, with some 7,700-square-feet of luxury space.

    The Lifestyle Hacienda in the Dominican Republic is a trio of villa and beach resorts in the Puerto Plata area, including the Lifestyle Tropical Beach Resort, the Lifestyle Crown Residence Suites, and the Lifestyle Crown Villas.

    With a dozen restaurants to choose from, you'll never get hungry or bored at this huge resort on Bavaro beach. Accommodations include 1,144 junior suites, 72 deluxe suites, and 72 deluxe master suites with kitchenettes -- a unique amenity among Dominican Republic all-inclusives; the Royal Suites include butler service and a private lounge and club. The emphasis is on families, with a Flintstone-themed kids program, but there's also a championship golf course and casino.

    This Puerto Plata resort caters to an international clientele and shares the Riu resort complex with the Riu Mambo and Riu Bachata hotels. Like the Riu resort in Punta Cana, there is a Caribbean Street running through the complex lined with shops, restaurants, and a spa. Riu Merengue guests have a range of dining and activities to choose from and also can enjoy the nearby casino at Riu Bachata.

    As the name suggests, the Sublime Samana resort is located on the quiet Samana peninsula, a hub for eco-tourism on the Dominican Republic's northeast coast. The resort is close to the town of Las Terrenas, but about three hours from the Puerto Plata airport (a $150 shuttle ride). Guests stay in a choice of 218 guest rooms with ocean or garden views have three restaurants to choose from. Reduced rates for kids 12 and under sharing a room with two paying adults.

    The Viva Wyndham Tangerine, part of the international Wyndham resorts chain, is located in the Puerto Plata region of the Dominican Republic near the town of Cabarete. The 221-room resort is set on a private beach and features a trio of restaurants, the Loft bar, and a nightclub. Food, all standard drinks, activities, non-motorized water sports, and kids club are included.

    Located on Playa Bavaro in Punta Cana, the Barcelo Bavaro Palace is a five-star all-inclusive with 558 luxury rooms and suites. A Dominican restaurant is among the dozen inclusive dining options, and there also are two non-inclusive upscale restaurants, Chez Palace and La Fuente. Resort highlights include the Tropicalissimo show, two nightclubs, a 24-hour casino, shopping center, and a large convention center that attracts meeting groups looking for an all-inclusive experience.

    Just minutes away from the Puerto Plata airport and downtown, the Hotel Playa Grande is a 494-room beachfront resort with a pair of freeform pools, a wide range of included activities (including merengue, bachata, and salsa classes), six restaurants and four bars.     A large casino is among the highlights of this 731-room Punta Cana resort, which includes 54 spa junior suites and 13 deluxe suites. The Barcelo Dominican Beach Resort has six la carte restaurants, three buffets, three pools with a pair of outdoor jacuzzis, and a new conference center.

    The Occidental Grand Punta Cana has 865 stylish guest rooms surrounding a trio of lagoon-style swimming pool, with a palm-fringed beach dotted with thatch-roof palapas. There are nine restaurants and seven bars.     Uniquely sited on a beautiful and secluded promontory, the Riu Bachata is a luxury all-inclusive retreat on Maimon Bay, with 610 bungalow-style rooms surrounded by tropical gardens. The resort is located in the Puerto Plata region, 15 miles from the airport. Amenities include a spa, casino, multiple restaurants, and the Pacha nightclub.

    Part of the Riu resort complex in Punta Cana, the Riu Naiboa has 362 rooms in a garden setting near the Caribbean Street promenade (full of shops and restaurants, as well as the Eternal Spa and Pacha night club.     The upscale Riu Palace Punta Cana has 612 junior suites in four-story buildings, each with jetted tubs and 24-hour room service. The hotel is home to some of the best restaurants in the Riu complex, including Brazilian, Japanese, and Italian dining, and guests also have access to the facilities at the four other Riu hotels.
