It's Halloween all month at Disneyland in October, with holiday decorations and celebrations. They're cute and fun, and some of the rides get Halloween themes, too. But the price you'll pay for seeing all that cuteness is the crowds you'll be stuck in.

If you're going to Disneyland in October, think about going on a day when they have the Disneyland Halloween Party. Children and adults can wear a costume, and everyone can go trick-or-treating. Attendance is limited, so waits are short, and this event package provides you with a less expensive way to get into Disneyland or Calfornia Adventure.

Disneyland Crowds in October

Disneyland is busy for all of October, but weekends are the worst, crowd-wise. They can get so busy that crowd calendars mark October Saturdays as days to "Forget About It." Your best bets are weekdays during the first week of the month and Tuesdays or Wednesdays after that.

Disneyland Weather in October

These averages give a rough idea of what the weather will be like at Disneyland in October. ​California weather, just like everywhere else, is different every year.

  • Average High Temperature: 74 F (24 C)
  • Average Low Temperature: 63 F (17 C)
  • Rain: Little or none
  • Humidity: 60 percent
  • Daylight: You will have about 11 hours of daylight to enjoy the parks

Expect sunny days and slightly cooler evenings. Santa Ana winds can bring hotter than average temperatures along with dry air that gives some people headaches and increases the potential for wildfires.

October Closures at Disneyland

Late in the month, "it's a small world" closes so they can switch it over to its Christmas holiday theme.

October may be the less-busy season as far as visitors (except on weekends), but it's the busy season for the Disneyland maintenance team, with significant closures happening during this time of year. Disneyland's October Hours

Monday through Thursday: Open 11 to 13 hours per day. All of Disneyland closes early on days when Mickey's Halloween Party is being held.

Friday through Sunday: Open 14 to 16 hours per day. Expect weekend hours on Columbus Day (Indigenous Peoples' Day) which is the second Monday of the month.

Some attractions may have shorter hours, and special events can also affect the schedule. Check the Disneyland calendar before going.  

What To Pack

Midday, Disneyland sometimes feels a little hotter than you might expect from the thermometer reading. Park hours will be shorter than in the summer, but it still cools off fast at dark. If you're going to watch water shows up close, you'll be thankful for a water repellent jacket.

Layers always work best. Make the innermost layer one that you'd be comfortable in if it's a little hotter than the forecasted high. Also, bring sunscreen and a change of socks for the day. October Events at Disneyland

Halloween Time: The celebration starts in September and lasts through the end of October. Prepare to see Disney Villains, a new look at the Haunted Mansion, pumpkins everywhere, and more Halloween-themed festivities and activities in the park.

The Disneyland Resort's evening Halloween parties start in September and run through the end of October. They occur on select nights. Guests are encouraged to dress up in costumes and even go trick-or-treating around the park.

Gay Days are an unofficial event, held in early October, as part of Anaheim's Gay Days. Anaheim goes all out to support gay citizens with special events and parties. It's a time that some LGBTQ people plan a trip to Disneyland. Although it's an informal event, there are pool parties, mixers, live music, DJs, dancing, brunch, and other things going on in Downtown Disney and the hotels. October Travel Tips

  • You'll find it hard to get significant ticket discounts this time of year. If you go to the Disneyland Halloween Party, you can to save money on tickets and enjoy lots of fun extras at the same time.
  • If you're planning to fly to Orange County for your Disneyland trip, October through December is the busiest time to do it If you can go in September instead, airfares are the cheapest month of the entire year.  
  • It will be harder to find a hotel deal, too, but you can use the guide to Disneyland hotel deals to get the best price possible
  • Don't wait until the last minute to get a room. Hotels fill up on Halloween Party nights.
  • And don't wait to get your Halloween party tickets, either. They start selling out in August or earlier.
