Is July a good time to go to Disneyland? That depends on your tolerance for crowds and heat, and whether July is simply the only month you can go.

During July, you can expect long hours, a full entertainment lineup, and as many rides as possible will be open. But you should also expect big crowds. To cope with that, you'll need all the strategies you can get to stay out of lines and having fun. You'll find the ones that really work if you use the tested and proven strategies in the guide to reducing wait times.

Check the pros and cons of visiting Disneyland in the summer.

Disneyland Crowds in July

Website isitpacked.com says July is one of the busiest months at Disneyland, with big crowds any day of the week. To get a day-by-day prediction, use their crowd forecast calendar.

You don't need a crowd predictor to know what will happen on July 4. Both parks (but especially Disneyland) will be packed. In fact, they reach capacity every year on that day and stop letting visitors in, even if they have a ticket. If you want to brave that crowd, your only hope is to get there early and stay inside until you're done. And use every one of these proven tips for Fastpasses and Maxpasses to shorten your wait.

Disneyland Weather in July

If you're planning your trip months ahead of time, these averages can help you get a rough idea of what the weather will be like. To make plans for a trip that's coming up soon, check the current Disneyland weather forecast a few days ahead.

Is Disneyland too hot in July? For many people, the answer is yers. The weather can be described in one word, but it bears repeating three times for emphasis: It is hot, hot, hot. And even worse, it always feels hotter than what the thermometer says. In fact, you may get so hot that you'll feel like putting that ice cream cone on your head instead of in your mouth.

However, it cools off fast at dark. That makes an afternoon break an especially good idea.

  • Average High Temperature: 75°F (24°C)
  • Average Low Temperature: 63°F (17°C)
  • Rain: 0 inches
  • Daylight: You will have a little more than14 hours of daylight to enjoy the parks

At the extremes, Anaheim's record low temperature was 30°F (-1°C), and its record high was 108°F (42°C).

July Closures at Disneyland

Except for really major renovations that take many months, one advantage of going to Disneyland in July is that all the rides will be running, except for brief closures to do routine maintenance.

For a list of which rides are expected to be closed for refurbishment, check Touringplans.com.

Disneyland's July Hours

In general, Disneyland is open 14 to 16 hours per day, every day in July. California Adventure hours may be slightly shorter.

What to Pack for Disneyland in July

Summer mornings can be overcast in Anaheim, but it won't last. Take strong, waterproof sunscreen and a hat that shades your face and neck. Follow the often-repeated advice to dress in layers. Start with an inner layer that you would be comfortable in if it was 10 degrees hotter than the forecasted high.

If you're going to watch Fantasmic! or World of Color up close, you'll be thankful for a water repellent jacket. And if you want to ride Splash Mountain at Disneyland or Grizzly River Run in California Adventure (which are rides where you are guaranteed to get wet), wear clothing that dries out quickly, so you don't have to go around feeling uncomfortable.

July Events at Disneyland

For the July 4 Independence Day holiday, there will be a fireworks show set to patriotic songs, with fiery bursts of red, white and blue.

The big Disney fan expo called D23 is held at the nearby Anaheim Convention Center, usually in July or August. It draws even more visitors to the parks than usual. Check the current and upcoming schedule on their website.
