TripSavvy's fact-checking Dan Forer/Getty Images If you're planning a Disney World vacation or getaway, there's really no wrong time of year to do it. With an overall average high temperature of 83 degrees Fahrenheit (28 degrees Celsius) and an average low of 62 F (17 C), the weather at Disney World sounds just about perfect year-round. On average Disney World's warmest month is July and January is the average coolest month while the maximum average rainfall usually falls in August. However, you should never let the rain spoil your visit because there are many ways that you can make the best of a rainy day at Disney World. If you're wondering what to pack, shorts and either a tank top or t-shirt will keep you comfortable in the summer at the parks, but cooler days during the winter may require slacks, long sleeves, and a medium-weight jacket as it can get quite chilly on some of the faster-moving rides. You'll also want to bring along comfortable shoes and a bathing suit no matter what time you visit as you're likely to do a lot of walking and the onsite resort hotels have heated swimming pools. Fast Climate Facts Hottest Month: July and August, 91 degrees Fahrenheit (33 degrees Celsius)Coldest Month: January, 48 degrees Fahrenheit (9 degrees Celsius)Wettest Month: July, 7 inchesDriest Month: November, 2 inches Hurricane Season Although it had been over a decade since Disney World had been affected by a hurricane, in October of 2016 Hurricane Matthew forced the park to close as severe winds and rainfall swept through the region. If you are visiting the theme parks during the hurricane season (June 1 through November 30) you should be aware of Disney's hurricane policy, which includes safety instructions for resort guests as well as refund information. Spring in Disney World With dry, warm days, cool nights, and fresh flowers budding throughout the parks, spring is one of the best times to plan your trip to Disney World. Average high temperatures increase from 78 degrees Fahrenheit (25 degrees Celsius) in March to 87 F (31 C) in May, but the chance of rain also increases toward the end of the season. As the weather heats up, special events and celebrations arrive at Disney World including the annual Epcot International Flower and Garden Festival, which features thousands of blooms and floral arrangements decorating the park. Additionally, other than several weeks during American schools' spring break, crowd sizes are relatively low in spring. What to Pack: Although you likely won't need more than pants, short and long-sleeved shirts, and comfortable shoes this time of year, bring a light sweater or jacket for cool evenings spent outdoors or time spent inside air-conditioned attractions. You may also want to bring an umbrella toward the end of the season in case of rain. Average Temperatures and Rainfall by Month: March: 79 F (26 C) / 55 F (13 C), 3.5 inchesApril: 84 F (29 C) / 59 F (15 C), 2.2 inchesMay: 88 F (31 C) / 64 F ( 18 C), 3.7 inches Summer in Disney World High temperatures in the Orlando summer are often very hot—usually climbing to at least 90 degrees Fahrenheit (32 degrees Celsius)—which can wilt even the most enthusiastic Mickey Mouse fan and can be quite dangerous for older visitors. Also, the park will be at its most crowded in June, July, and August, which means you'll likely have to wait longer in the hot sun at the most popular rides and attractions. Fortunately, frequent afternoon thunderstorms will often cool things off a bit throughout the season, but you should definitely follow tips for beating the Florida heat to help keep yourself comfortable and safe this time of year. What to Pack: Since the parks are typically quite warm in the summer, you won't need more than T-shirts, shorts, and a light jacket for air-conditioned attractions this time of year. However, you'll also want to make sure your shoes are waterproof and you bring an umbrella since the summer is the rainiest season. Temperatures drop from highs above 90 degrees Fahrenheit (32 degrees Celsius) in September to lows that are above 50 F (10 C) by November; meanwhile, monthly precipitation drops from six inches in September to its dry-season norm of just over two inches in November. What to Pack: Fall is perhaps one of the hardest seasons to pack for since you'll need a combination of dry and wet-weather clothing in addition to outfits that are good for warm days and colder nights. Essential items include an umbrella, waterproof shoes, shorts, pants, a bathing suit, a light sweater, and a light-to-medium-weight coat. Daytime temperatures stay around 70 degrees Fahrenheit (21 degrees Celsius) while nighttime lows dip below 50 F (10 C) from December through February, and rainfall accumulates at just over two inches each month. What to Pack: While you can still swim in the winter thanks to the heated pools at many of Disney World's resorts and should pack a bathing suit, you may want to bring pants and a sweater to wander around the parks or ride the rides. Additionally, although lows in the 40s may not seem that cold, you may still need a light coat this time of year as well.
