The Metro-Detroit area welcomes the winter thaw in April with a series of outdoor events, including Easter Egg Hunts and Ann Arbor's Festifools. Of course, cold days are still possible, so there are plenty of indoor activities on the list of Metro-Detroit Events and Things to Do in April in 2015.

Guide to Easter in Metro Detroit

In addition to Easter Brunch, there are plenty of fun activities for the family being held in celebration of Easter throughout the Metro-Detroit area. From now until Easter Sunday, enjoy Easter-egg hunts, marshmallow drops and photo opportunities with the Easter Bunny.

Some folks figure out the first day of spring by factoring in Daylight Savings Time, checking the Farmer's Almanac and/or trusting a blurb on their calendar, but the real first day of spring in Metro Detroit is when the Detroit Tigers have their first home game at Comerica Park. In this respect, spring come a little late in 2015 because the season opener -- Detroit Tigers vs. Minnesota Twins -- takes place on Monday, April 6th at 1:08 PM. The Tigers continue to play the Minnesota Twins on Wednesday (4/8) and Thursday (4/9). In addition to a relatively new ballpark, lots of food choice, and activities for the kids, the Tigers keep things interesting.

Detroit Music Awards

In recognition of Detroit-area musicians, the 24th annual Detroit Music Awards is presented by Detroit Music Awards Foundation. Award recipients are determined by local musicians and music industry professionals. Award categories include Blues, Jazz, Gospel, Country, Classical, Rock/Pop, R&B/Hip-Hop, Electronic, World and Folk/Acoustic.

Festifools & Fullmoon

When: Sunday, 4/12/15 from 4 PM to 5 PM
Where: Along Main Street in downtown Ann Arbor
Festifools started off as a University of Michigan student project in 2007 but has since evolved into a community-building, public-art parade that showcases huge, papier-mache puppets.
Note: A second pageant/parade called FoolMoon is scheduled on Friday 4/10/15 from dusk (7 PM) to midnight. FoolMoon is a night-time parade/pageant that is filled with illuminated sculptures, paper lanterns, shadow puppets, experimental films and candlelight.

Detroit Zoo: Events in April

Where: The Detroit Zoo
At any given time, The Detroit Zoo hosts special zoo events that showcase zoo animals and offer special activities for children and adults. As the days warm and Detroit slips into spring, the zoo hosts GreenFest (its ode to Earth Day). There will be earth-friendly crafts, a scavenger hunt and zoo-keeper talks.

Detroit Greek Independence Day Parade

When: Sunday, 4/19/2015 at 3 PM
Where: Monroe Street, downtown Detroit

The Detroit Greek Parade was originally started in World War II to raise money to help American-ally Greece,  but it was successfully resurrected in 2002 and now serves as a celebration venue for Greek churches and organizations across Metro Detroit and Windsor.

March of Dimes "March for Babies"

When: 4/26/15
Where: Various locations throughout Metro Detroit
March of Dimes sponsors walks at several locations within the Metro-Detroit area in late April. Most take place on April 26th, 2015 (including the walks at Wayne State University in Detroit and Oakland University in Rochester), but there are a few walks that take place on other dates. Kensington Metropark in Milford hosts a walk on May 3rd and Ann Arbor/Hudson Mills on May 17th.The funds raised support programs in furtherance of full-term pregnancies and healthy babies.

Metro Times Blowout 2015

When: 4/29/15 through 5/2/15
Where: Venues in Detroit, Hamtramck and Ferndale
The Metro Times Blowout is in its 18th year and features over 200 bands, including Andrew W.K., The Black Lips, Alvvays Pup, Arkells and more.. Tickets are $20 for an advance weekend pass.

Shows and Concerts

Where: Metro-Detroit Theaters and Concert Venues
At any given time, Detroit hosts a variety of shows and concerts, including music concerts, Broadway plays, comedians, rodeos and circuses.

Detroit Institute of Arts

Arts Alive!: After six and one-half years of renovations, the New Detroit Institute of Arts (DIA) opened its doors in 2007 to show off its new design and galleries. The DIA is always brimming with events, including films, exhibits and music.
