Located in Clarksville, Indiana, just across the Ohio River from Kentucky, Derby Dinner Playhouse is a draw for residents of Louisville and Southern Indiana alike. Combining professional light displays and fancy costumes with a live orchestra and seasoned performing artists, the Derby Dinner Playhouse is known for staging Broadway musicals, cheerful comedies and shows designed to delight children.
As the name implies, when attending Derby Dinner performances, customers enjoy a meal and a show. Around 130 individuals work within the organization to keep the restaurant and theater running smoothly. Derby Dinner Playhouse is proud to be a member of the National Dinner Theatre Association and is one of the largest and oldest dinner theatres to be continually operating within the United States. Derby Dinner opened in 1974.
Food is served buffet style and is based on classic American favorites. Expect to sample from a full salad bar, an assortment of vegetable choices, fish, beef or turkey, hot bread and a beverage. Of course, desserts are available, too.

Open for over 40 years, Derby Dinner has staged many, many productions. The organization has produced all of the top Broadway favorites. Think of musicals like “Oklahoma”, “Hello Dolly” and “Annie.” Producing shows year-round, Derby Dinner Playhouse features eight mainstage productions along with four productions specifically for children.
In addition to these twelve plays, there are twelve concerts each year as well.
How much are tickets to Derby Dinner?
Admission prices vary. For example, tickets to a children's show, where breakfast or lunch is served, is typically $16-$20 per ticket. For events in the evening, adults can expect to spend around $40 per ticket.
There are discounts for senior citizens and children on Friday and Sunday nights. Also, if Derby Dinner isn't sold out, rush tickets are available for students throughout the week. Remember, you are going to dine at the play, so if you bring the cost of dinner into the equation, Derby Dinner Playhouse can be an affordable outing.
Classes for Kids:
The Performing Arts Academy of Derby Dinner Playhouse offers classes, camps and workshops. This educational component of Derby Dinner typically offers a Christmas break performance workshop, a spring acting workshop and a summer camp. Generally, the registration period for camps and workshops opens two months prior to start dates.
Want to Audition?
Derby Dinner Playhouse does hold open auditions in January, but keep in mind that it is a professional theatre. Theatrical experience is mandatory, in most cases, and performers have to be available throughout the day—rehearsals in the morning, performances at night. If these stipulations apply to you, be prepared with a resume, headshot, a one minute memorized monologue, one prepared song with sheet music and a willingness to dance.
