If you're dreaming of a White Christmas, we've got just the party to point you to — and it comes with horse-drawn sleigh rides, live music, dancing and some vintage dress-up. (Swoon!)
The 1940's White Christmas Ball on Dec. 3, 2016 will draw 2,000-some guests with victory rolls and fedoras for a holiday party that feels like it's set on the sage of Irving Berlin's classic holiday film, White Christmas.
In a word, it's nostalgic. (And with movie sets, Christmas trees, tinsel, a canopy of lights, the airport hangar is a pretty stellar set-up for snapping some photos for your holiday cards, yes?)
The ball will take place at the Rocky Mountain Metropolitan Airport in Broomfield. The soundtrack, of course, will be big band music, with the Metropolitan Jazz Orchestra and the Hot Tomatoes performing. Don't know how to swing dance? No sweat: You can show up early at 4 p.m. for some complimentary dance lessons and learn some fancy footwork before the party starts. (General admission is at 5 p.m. and the ball goes until 1 a.m.)
But what's just as cool as a nostalgic party amid WWII-era planes and classic cars? The ball raises money for The Colorado 10th Mountain Division and The Commemorative Airforce. Coupled with a 1940's WWII Era Ball that's held in June at the Boulder Airport, the two events have raised $68,000 to donate to the charities since the events began in 2008.
Entertainment throughout the evening includes a vintage Vegas tribute show with actors playing Frank Sinatra, Elvis and Judy Garland. Plus, there will be a performance by The Satin Dollz, a 1940's tap dancing and performance troupe.
“The evening will be filled with Christmas carols, big band music, dancing and nostalgia for Christmas that will delight holiday revelers and ignite the spirit of the season," says creator Khyentse James.
Even the menu will put you in holiday spirits. Among the offerings? Cinnamon pulled pork sandwiches, sweet potato fries with a bourbon glaze, cranberry cous-cous and a Figgy Pudding Grilled Cheese with melted brie, brandied fig jam, spiced apples, rosemary sourdough.
Ready to party like it's 1940? Put together a vintage outfit because there will be a costume contest, with one male and one female winner.
