Dallas Fort Worth International Airport is a major hub for connecting flights between the East and West Coast. With seven runways and five terminals, it is the fourth busiest airport in the United States and plenty of passengers passing through need a hotel to bunk down for a night or two. There are many convenient airport hotels surrounding DFW airport, but some stand out more than others. Here are the eight best airport hotels in the Dallas area.

The hotel features an indoor pool that’s great for the kids, as well as an adjoining outdoor sundeck if you're looking to catch some rays. There’s plenty of meeting space for business travelers, and the free hot breakfast makes mornings simple. A 24-hour menu serves American fare and a café offers coffee and cocktails. TripAdvisor members raved about the airport shuttle service and the helpful drivers. The hotel is located near the south terminals. Free parking is also available.

For travelers concerned about their “carbon footprint” on the environment, Elements Dallas Fort Worth uses a number of green practices ranging from recycling programs to efficient appliances. Rooms feature sleek and modern designs that have a different layout than standard hotel rooms, and come with equipped kitchenettes with full-sized refrigerators, microwaves and stovetops. Free hot breakfast is included and there’s also a 24-hour market (in case you want to cook up a meal in your room), as well as an outdoor lounge with a self-service grill (if you're looking to flip burgers). To stay active, guests can borrow a bicycle, head to the 24-hour fitness center or take a dip in the pool. Reasonable prices and spacious rooms make the Homewood Suites by Hilton an easy choice for families. The hotel has a few added amenities to keep the kids occupied, mainly a pool table in the game room, a swimming pool and a basketball court. To save some cash on dining out, suites have fully equipped kitchens (even with dishwashers!). One and two-bedroom suites are available with comfortable living areas and free WiFi. Parents can unwind next to the cozy fireplace in the newly remodeled lobby or burn some calories in the fitness center. There is no full-service restaurant at the hotel, but a free hot breakfast is included in the rate. When it's time to head to the airport, be sure to check the shuttle schedule; it does not run all night.

Travelers trying to save some cash can rely on the Super 8 Grapevine/DFW Airport Northwest for a pleasant stay without breaking the bank. Located in downtown Grapevine there’s an abundance of restaurants nearby within reasonable walking distance. The free shuttle goes to the airport and also makes stops around town, and TripAdvisor members state that the staff is friendly and helpful when it comes to recommendations on the local area attractions. Guestrooms have cheerful décor, mini refrigerators and free WiFi, plus guest laundry is also available on the property. Although one of the pricier airport hotels, the 118-room Residence Inn Dallas offers an extremely quiet stay near the city of Dallas, the DFW airport and Love Field (executive airport). It's also just five minutes from the Financial Service Institute – making it ideal for business travelers. The suites are mini apartments with earth-toned décor, work stations, free WiFi and full kitchens – plus a convenient grocery shopping service. Three nights a week the hotel offers mixers for barbecuing, with local food trucks and free beer and wine. The shuttle runs to the airport every 30 minutes. Free breakfast is included.

If you’re traveling with your pet, finding a hotel that doesn’t tack on an expensive “pet fee” is difficult, but the 71-room La Quinta Inn & Suites DFW Airport West (Euless) welcomes furry friends at no extra charge (although some restrictions apply). Other freebies include the airport shuttle that runs 24/7, parking, a hot breakfast buffet and WiFi. Work out in the fitness center, take a dip in the swimming pool (open year-round) or hop on the local shuttle to a nearby restaurant (there are none in the immediate area). All rooms have comfortable, pillow-top mattresses in addition to microwaves and refrigerators for heating up those leftovers.

The “park and fly” option at the Home 2 Suites by Hilton allows guests to park free for seven nights. And in addition to a convenient location just two miles from the airport's north entrance, the hotel also has handy electric car charging stations. Spacious suites have equipped kitchens with dishwashers and microwaves, as well as sofas, free WiFi, and ultra-comfortable beds. Shoot some hoops at the basketball court, go for a swim in the pool or take a dip in the whirlpool. A free breakfast is included in the rate, and there’s also a fitness center, airport shuttle, business center and guest laundry.

If you're on a longer layover and want a quieter location farther away from the airport (about 10 miles), then the Hilton in Arlington is a great spot. It has been beautifully remodeled and offers a free airport shuttle (although it does not run 24 hours). Rooms feature luxurious bedding, MP3 clocks, feather pillows and in-room dining. A breakfast buffet is available (it's not included), and the on-site restaurant, R Bar and Grill, serves Tex-Mex cuisine for lunch and dinner, plus crafted cocktails and local beer. The hotel also has a fitness center and lovely outdoor swimming pool.
