New Film Festival Theme: Sweets and Sips

Crystal City, Virginia holds an outdoor film festival, presenting movies under the stars. Bring a picnic and a blanket. Movies are held rain or shine, except in cases of severe, inclement weather.  This year, the Crystal Screen Sips & Sweets movie festival joins the Sip Your Way Through September line-up  of events which includes the annual Sip and Salsa on Sunday, September 11th, Pups and Pilsners on Sunday, September 18th, and Wine in the Water Park every Friday throughout September.

Location: 18th and Bell Street, across from the Crystal City Metro Station.  Crystal City is located in Arlington County, just south of Washington DC, between National Airport and U. S. Route 1.   See a map

2016 Movie Schedule

Sept 6 - Willy Wonka (1971) Rated G. Charlie receives a golden ticket to a factory, his sweet tooth wants going into the lushing candy, it turns out there's an adventure in everything.

Sept 13 - Bottle Shock (2008) Rated PG-13. The story of the early days of California wine making featuring the now infamous, blind Paris wine tasting of 1976 that has come to be known as "Judgment of Paris".

Sept 20 - Chocolat (2000) Rated PG-13.  A woman and her daughter open a chocolate shop in a small French village that shakes up the rigid morality of the community.

Sept 27 - Sideways (2004) Rated R.  Two men reaching middle age with not much to show but disappointment embark on a week-long road trip through California's wine country, just as one is about to take a trip down the aisle.

Sip Your Way Through September Events

  • Sip and Salsa - September 11, 2016. The event showcases delicious wines from Spain, Portugal, and Argentina along with food tastes from restaurants in Crystal City and the region. The festival also includes live latin jazz, wine education from the Washington Wine Academy, and Salsa from Columbia Pike’s Salsa Room. 
  • Pups and Pilsners - September 18, 2016. This dog-friendly festival features a massive beer garden including offerings from local breweries and food from Crystal City restaurants.
  • Wine in the Water Park - every Friday, June through September 2016, 6-10 p.m. the outdoor pop-up wine and beer garden features live music, hand-selected wines from the Washington Wine Academy, and a free outdoor ArtJamz session.
