Wide enough to double as a picnic blanket
Lightweight and packable
Super-soft cotton velour
Prone to snags
Average to low durability
With its double-wide size, this soft, colorful towel is extremely versatile, perfect for sunbathing and picnicking, and reasonably priced given the multipurpose functionality and quality. However, it may prove less durable than a higher-end towel over time.
We purchased the Cotton Craft Luxury Beach Towel so our reviewer could put it to the test. Keep reading for our full product review.
Being beach-ready means having a bag packed with the essentials so you can “grab and go” at the drop of a wide-brimmed sun hat. To prepare for the season, we took the travel-friendly Cotton Craft Luxury Beach Towel for Two on a beach date to a lovely Laguna cove and are pleased to report that the 58 x 68-inch plush cotton towel did not disappoint. The brightly colored stripes make for a fresh summer look, and the generous size of the beach towel gives it a versatile quality. Read on for our full review, with everything you need to know about how this oversized towel lives large.
The first thing we noticed about the towel was its vivid colors and classic summer stripes. We tried out the Summer of Siam multi-stripe option, which made for a vibrant backdrop to the sandy beach, not to mention a fun background for the photos we snapped while soaking up the sun.
This towel is big enough for you and a companion—provided you know each other well enough that you don't mind bumping elbows on occasion.
Bonus: We can confirm that it’s easy to spot if you find yourself scanning a crowded beach after making your way back from the water. Cotton Craft also makes this towel in Cabana Stripe Blue colorway; if you’re looking for blue and green tones evoking cool water on a summery day, this is an option for you.
This Cotton Craft towel is Jacquard-woven from 100 percent ringspun cotton, which gives the material a soft-to-the-touch feel. The thing to know about ringspun cotton is that it combines both long- and short-staple fibers in a tight twist, increasing the durability and smoothness of the fiber. The quality feel is evident, though we’d stop short of calling it luxurious. While it is soft to the touch, it lacks the thickness and substantiality that we typically associate with luxury. That said, for some, the thinner, lighter weight of the towel might actually make it more appealing, given that it’s easier to transport—especially if, like us, you're always trying to squeeze loads of other beach gear in your bag.
At 58 x 68 inches, Cotton Craft’s Beach Towel for Two is indeed big enough for you and a companion—provided you know each other well enough that you don't mind bumping elbows on occasion. The utility of a double-wide towel can eliminate the need to bring two towels, simplifying your beach bag-packing, which is always a good thing.
For such a large towel, it packs down to a size that easily fits in most beach bags, and it’s surprisingly lightweight given its generous dimensions.
While sunbathing, this towel felt nice and plush between our skin and the sand thanks to its velour texture. There’s often a tradeoff with towels between feel and function, with more refined towels feeling super soft but doing little to actually dry you off, compared with say, a terry cloth towel that might be less smooth in texture but absorbs water like a sponge. Cotton Craft’s towel strikes a good balance between the two. It feels great to lie on, and it successfully dried us off after a dip.
One of the things we liked best about the oversized design of this towel, is that beyond providing a generous surface for sunbathing, its large size allows for spreading out your beach snacks and drinks like you would on a beach blanket. Sand in the watermelon is a party fail, and an oversized towel solves that problem by ensuring sufficient snack-to-sand margins.
As far as portability goes, for such a large towel, it packs down to a size that easily fits in most beach bags, and it’s surprisingly lightweight given its generous dimensions.
Cotton Craft towels are designed to be easy-care, machine-wash- and dry-able. The brand does advise washing the towels two to three times prior to initial use, however, indicating they will become softer and fluffier with each subsequent washing.
We put ours through the wash twice, and while it did shed lint heavily both times, Cotton Craft notes that it will lessen with regular care. As with all dark-colored fabrics, you’ll want to wash it in cold to minimize color fade and bleed. We tumble-dried on low and noticed only slight shrinkage and no notable color fade.
Other users have reported pilling and fibers snagging over time. The latter is a problem that we can vouch for as well. Tossing the towel over a wooden Adirondack chair, it became apparent that the fibers were a little snag-happy. The larger fabric loops on the underside of the towel allow for expansive fluffiness, but they also appear to make the fibers more delicate, requiring extra care to prevent snags from turning into full-blown holes in the fabric.
For an oversized beach towel with all the style and versatility perks this one offers, the $24.99 price tag makes it a really good buy. However, if you’re looking for one that will last a long time, you may need to invest more for durability.
Due to its generous size, this towel works overtime, doubling as a picnic blanket large enough to keep a snack spread sand-free.
Like Cotton Craft’s Beach Towel for Two, the Laguna Beach Textile Company’s Round Beach Towel is Jacquard-woven in 100 percent cotton. Both towels are considered “oversized,” and both offer more functionality than a standard-sized beach towel.
The biggest difference is the shape. The decision between angular versus round comes down to personal preference. Both towels are large enough to accommodate two sunbathers and versatile enough to function perfectly for picnics. One factor worth considering is length: Measuring 68 inches, the Cotton Craft towel is longer than the Laguna Beach Textile Company towel’s 60-inch diameter. If you plan to lie out, and like to be mostly on the towel, you might be happier with the shape and size of the Cotton Craft towel.
Another factor to consider is the overall weight of the towels. The Round Cabana towel has a higher count of 600 grams per square meter (GSM) compared with the Cotton Craft Towel’s 450 GSM. Because of this, it is noticeably thicker and heavier. So, if you are looking for a more packable towel, the Cotton Craft wins on this front. That said, we expect the denser Round Beach Towel to be more durable over time.
The colorway options are quite different as well. If subtle sophistication is more your vibe, then the Laguna Beach Textile Company towel comes in two soft-toned options. On the other hand, if a bright, easy-to-spot beach towel in classic summer stripes is more up your alley, the Cotton Craft towel is the way to go.
Last but not least, consider the price. At $45, the Round Beach Towel is almost double the Cotton Craft option at $24.99. Keep in mind, however, based on our full reviews of each towel, we’ve concluded the Laguna Beach Company Round Beach Towel ranks higher for quality and durability, making it worthy of the higher price.
Still can't decide on what you want? Our round-up of the best beach towels can help you find what you're looking for.
The Cotton Craft Luxury Beach Towel for Two is plush and comfy, and its large size allows it to double as a picnic blanket. It offers fun color and functionality at a reasonable price, but it may not be as durable as other options on the market.
