One of a few Gay Pride celebrations that take place in the Southeast during the month of October (others include Blue Ridge Pride in Asheville, NC, and Atlanta Gay Pride), South Carolina Gay Pride takes place in the capital city of Columbia, in Finlay Park - the date of this event changed to Labor Day weekend last year, and based on this, it's expected to take place once again in early September 2017.

Details for this year's festivities had yet to be announced as of this writing, so check back here for updates. It's sounding like it'll be a big event, as attendance continues to grow - more than 55,000 onlookers and participants were on hand last year, making it the largest South Carolina Gay Pride yet.

The South Carolina Gay Pride Parade takes place on Saturday, typically at noon, starting at Laurel and Main streets, and running south to Main and Gervais streets. Here's a map of the South Carolina Gay Pride Parade route.

Additionally, numerous bars, as well as gay-popular restaurants, hotels, and shops, have special events and parties throughout Pride Weekend. Check the main GLBT newspaper serving the Carolinas, Q Notes for details. Also take a look at the online visitors guide produced by the city's official tourism organization, the Columbia Metropolitan CVB - it's a useful mainstream source of information on the region.
