Parenting doesn't end when a child turns 18 and goes off to college or embarks on a new life after high school. Family vacations also evolve through many stages, and some resorts are well positioned to serve them all.
Club Med resorts not only offer terrific kids programs for children up to age 17, but they are also for vacations with young adult children from age 18 through their 20s.
For families who like the ease of an all-inclusive resort, Club Med may be a good fit. It is a premium brand with a wide array of activities for adults of all ages, along with excellent dining, and spacious family suites. Moreover, the atmosphere at Club Med has a wide appeal for both 20-somethings and older adults.
Club Med With Young Adult Kids
Club Med's unique social structure makes it a top choice for vacations with young adults, who will find the laid-back, outgoing atmosphere to be a lot of fun. The focus on learning new activities and the inclusive nature of evening entertainment means that your son or daughter will likely make acquaintances with other guests.
Activities and Things to Do
While many all-inclusive resorts offer Hobie-cat sailing, windsurfing, and other instruction, Club Med takes things to another level. It's all about learning at Club Med, and every day you can find classes scheduled in sailing, tennis, windsurfing and other activities. It's a great atmosphere for learning a new sport or skill. The circus school and flying trapeze are signature features of Club Med resorts. Guests of all ages are encouraged to try it out at least once.
Most all-inclusive resorts offer evening entertainment but Club Med does things in its own way. A Club Med resort typically has a fully equipped theater with stage, seating, and lighting. Most nights, the staff puts on a show and encourages audience participation.
All in all, Club Med resorts are a great bet for a resort-style vacation with young adult kids. Families with young adult children have a wider range of options than families with younger kids. They can choose from among family resorts with kids' programs such as Club Med Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic; Club Med Cancun Yucatan and Club Med Ixtapa Pacific in Mexico; and Club Med Sandpiper Bay in Florida. They can also consider a number of Club Meds that require guests to be ages 16 and up. In Turks and Caicos, Club Med Turquoise has a minimum age of 18.
A Note About the Legal Drinking Age
Be aware that the legal drinking age is 18 in Mexico and most Caribbean countries, not 21 as in the United States. As a young adult, your kid will receive an adult wristband that allows him or her to order alcoholic beverages at the resort. In the evening, it's common to find a number of young adult guests at the bar. It's probably wise to have a discussion before your vacation if you want your son or daughter to adhere to the U.S. drinking age of 21, or to practice moderation while on your vacation.
