The annual Mesa Temple Garden Christmas Lights display conveys peace and goodwill of the season with a unique and spectacular exhibit of hundreds of thousands of lights that serve as a backdrop for the sounds of the holidays. The display is entitled Celebrate the Birth of Christ Light and Music Christmas Celebration.
Where is the Temple Garden Christmas celebration?
The Temple Garden Christmas Celebration takes place at the Mesa Arizona Temple and Visitors' Center located at 525 E. Main Street in Mesa.
You can use Valley Metro Rail to get to the Mesa Arizona Temple Grounds. Use the Main Street/Mesa Drive Station. Here's a map with directions to Mesa Arizona Temple.
When is Mesa Arizona Temple Gardens Christmas Lights and Concert Series?
The gardens will be lit beginning Saturday, November 25, 2016 from 5 p.m. until 10 p.m. and on each subsequent night during those same hours through Saturday, December 31, 2016. Nightly concerts begin on December 1 and are presented each night at 7 p.m. through December 25.
The event attracts about one million visitors every year, and features hundreds of thousands of colorful lights, a large nativity display, and holiday dioramas that blanket the garden area of the Mesa Arizona Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Hundreds of volunteers will donate thousands of hours of labor throughout the holiday season to create and maintain the display.
The Mesa Arizona Temple Gardens Christmas Lights and Concert Series features free half-hour concerts, featuring a variety of groups and musical styles, presented at 7 p.m. each evening through December 25. A complete schedule of performances can be seen online. Concerts take place on the north side of the Mesa Temple Visitors’ Center.
The Visitors' Center, located adjacent to the Temple, offers free tours from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. each day during the Christmas lights display. Don't miss the international nativity display featuring nativities from across the United States and all over the world.
All faiths are welcome to visit.
What Else Should I Know?
I have been to this event several times over the years, and it gets rather cold in the evening. Better to dress in layers (and even bring gloves) and de-layer if you are warm; that's easier than to be too cold. The chairs for the concerts are metal, so people will often bring pads or blankets to place on them. If you don't mind carrying them around, you can bring your own chairs, too, and position them on the sides or in the back of the concert viewing area. This is an especially good idea if you don't want to arrive early to get a seat.
Hundreds of people will be standing at these concerts.
I Am Not Mormon. Is that a Problem? Will They Try To Convert Me?
This is a celebration for all people. Usually, there is minimal proselytizing at the holiday event, but if you are approached by someone who asks you if you'd like to know more about their faith, you are welcome to either say yes or politely decline.
How much will it cost to get in?
Nothing! Admission to the Mesa Arizona Temple Gardens Christmas Lights and Concert Series is free. Street parking is free.
