Celebrate the Holidays at the Middleburg Hunt, Christmas Parade and More

Middleburg, Virginia is a wonderful place to celebrate the Christmas holiday. Located in the heart of Virginia horse country, the small town attracts local residents and visitors from around the region to take part in traditional festivities that have become an essential part of the spirit of Christmas in Middleburg.
Each December, the Middleburg Hunt takes to the streets creating a spectacular site as approximately 100 horses, riders in red coats and dozens of hounds come through the town. The Middleburg Christmas Parade features a unique assortment of floats, marching bands, local community groups, antique fire trucks, and a variety of animals including horses, llamas and dogs. Santa brings up the rear riding on a beautiful horse drawn coach. Throughout the day there are hayrides, choir performances, the Garden Club's Christmas Flower & Greens Show and the Middleburg Community Craft Show. A Wine Crawl at the end of the day allows adults to wind down and relax while sampling wines from area vineyards, and foods in local restaurants. Middleburg shops, stores, and restaurants will be offering special activities and discounts.

Schedule of Events


  • 5 p.m. Christmas Tree Lighting ceremony. Caroling begins at 5 p.m., behind the Pink Box Visitor Center at 12 North Madison St. Refreshments will also be served. Mayor Betsy Allen Davis will lead the countdown to the tree lighting. The town’s Christmas tree features over 1,000 lights.
  • 6:30 p.m. Fifth Annual Holiday Concert by A Place to Be in the Grand Living Room at Salamander Resort and Spa, 500 N. Pendleton St.


  • 8:30-10:30 a.m. - Breakfast with Santa and a Silent Auction at Middleburg Elementary School
  • 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Craft Fair at Middleburg Community Center, 300 West Washington St. 
  • 11 a.m. - The Middleburg Hunt.  Approximately 150 horses, riders in hunting attire and dozens of hounds come through the town.
  • 11:30 a.m.-1:50 p.m. Hayrides around town
  • 2 p.m. - Middleburg Christmas Parade. Spectators line the sidewalks along Washington Street (Route 50) to watch as a unique assortment of floats, troops, and musical groups march by. The parade includes horses, ponies, llamas, alpacas and a variety of dog breeds. Not to be missed are the antique fire trucks and of course, Santa brings up the rear riding on a beautiful horse drawn coach.
  • 3 - 6 p.m. - Progressive Wine Tasting. The progressive hospitality of food and wine tasting will allow adults to wind down and relax at Middleburg establishments of their choice while sampling foods, wines, and spirits from throughout the area at local restaurants.

Getting There

Middleburg is located approximately 45 minutes from Washington, DC. Take I-66 West to Route 50 West (Exit 57B) toward Winchester. Drive approximately 25 miles to Middleburg. Event parking will be available for $20 per vehicle, one mile east of Middleburg on Rt. 50. Free shuttle service will be provided.
