The town of Leesburg, Virginia, celebrates the holiday season with a variety of special events, including a Christmas tree lighting ceremony, a holiday craft show, and a holiday parade, festival, and concert. Leesburg is also a great place to enjoy shopping, dining and seasonal cheer. Here’s the schedule of some not-to-be-missed holiday events in this historic town.
On December 4, 2019, Santa arrives by horse-drawn carriage to visit with the children and to kick off the big holiday season. Don’t miss the Grand Finale when Santa lights the spectacular musical tree. It's a 54-foot-tall Christmas tree with more than 15,000 sparkling lights, amazing music, and daily light shows. The festivities include carriage rides, musical performances, caroling, holiday characters, fire pits, hot chocolate, roasting chestnuts, and more holiday fun. Attendees are encouraged to bring a new, unwrapped toy to be donated to Toys for Tots.
From mid-November to the end of December, visit the historic estate as it comes alive with afternoon teas, holiday house tours, shopping, wreath-making, and candlelight hayrides. Kids can also visit with Santa and have their photo taken with him. Each room in the 1804 Oatlands mansion will sparkle with unique decorations, some featuring materials from the gardens on the property. The holiday decor will also feature beautifully decorated Christmas trees throughout the home.
Catch the Christmas spirit and bring the whole family to see Santa and his friends parade down King Street and through the heart of historic Leesburg. Get there early to claim your viewing spot along the parade route, which begins at Ida Lee Drive and ends at Fairfax Street. The parade takes place on December 14, 2019 at 6 p.m.
At this arts and crafts show, you'll find presents for everyone on your list. It features more than 95 local and regional artisans selling their handmade crafts. Items include candles, jewelry, linens, and stained glass. In 2019, the craft show will take place over the weekend on December 7 and 8. Admission is free and there will be prize drawings, so make sure you stick around for most of the day.
On December 14, the town's holiday rock concert features musicians playing traditional Christmas tunes. Proceeds will go to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. Tickets can only be purchased in-person at Ida Lee Park Recreation Center. They sell out fast, so make sure you pick them out early!
On the first Friday of December, December 6, 2019, the Leesburg community kicks off the holiday season with the town Christmas tree lighting, featuring performances from local elementary and high schools and words from the mayor, council, and guest speakers. Join in a holiday sing-a-long and stick around in town for the evening for Leesburg’s First Friday event. At this event, local businesses and merchants will stay open late to host some holiday cheer.
