The Billy Graham Library at Christmastime

••• Carriage rides are just part of the fun at the Billy Graham Library's Christmas celebration.

Christmas at the Billy Graham Library in Charlotte, North Carolina, has quickly become one of the premier holiday celebrations in Charlotte. The library itself is a beautiful place, but when it's decorated for Christmas on the inside, a dazzling light display outside, a live nativity, carolers, carriage rides, and more - it's one of the area's best displays. It was named one of the Top 100 Events in the U.S. by the American Bus Association (ABA) and a Top 20 event by the Southeast Tourism Society.

Lines for the library can get a little long, especially the closer you get to Christmas. I recommend checking it out earlier in the month when lines will be a little shorter.

Here are just some of the special events you'll find at "Christmas at the Billy Graham Library"

  • A live nativity scene
  • Horse-drawn carriage rides through beautiful light displays
  • Heartwarming sounds of joyful carolers and festive Christmas music
  • Christmas story time for kids of all ages
  • Christmas shopping at Ruth's Attic with unique and meaningful gifts including Exclusive Library ornaments. Holiday goodies, including Mother Graham's pound cake, cinnamon rolls, hot apple cider and more on sale in the Dairy Bar

Of course, the library itself is still open and available for tours. If you haven't had the chance to visit before, it's worth checking out.

The galleries in the library showcase many presentations, pictures, music, artifacts, and voices from Graham's lifetime and give proof of the millions of people he has influenced. There are recreations of crucial parts of Graham's life: one of his tent revivals, his personal living room, a television and radio studio he worked in, and even the Berlin Wall.

One gallery is entirely devoted to Ruth Bell Graham, his late wife. From a personal check from a U.S. President and a Presidential Medal of Freedom to a piece of the Berlin wall, visitors will get the chance to grasp just how much of an influence on the entire world this one man had.

Looking for even more fellowship and fun? The library even offers a traditional Christmas dinner with all the trimmings on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays from 6 to 8 p.m. Dinner will be served behind the Library at the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association Headquarters. A maximum of 250 people will be served each evening on a first-come, first-served basis.
