During the month of February, many restaurants in the Washington DC area offer specials in celebration of the Chinese New Year. Here are a few dining specials. Of course, many people flock to the Chinese restaurants in Chinatown where you may find a less expensive meal.
Ping Pong Dim Sum – Two locations: 7th Street and Dupont Circle, NW Washington DC. Lucky 8 Prix Fixe is a special feast designed to bring good fortune and features 8 signature dumplings filled with traditional ingredients symbolic of luck, health and prosperity.
The special collection of items includes a butter poached crab and gold leaf dumpling for fortune, a pork and roasted chestnut parcel for progress, and a caviar and glass noodle dumpling for long life. The meal concludes with a traditional lucky red envelope filled with a prize including complimentary cocktails, dinners and experiences at the restaurants. Specials include complimentary longan baijou firecracker cocktails on Tuesdays between 4-6pm, 10% off your brunch for wearing red on Sundays, and complimentary dessert for everyone born in the Chinese zodiac’s year of the sheep.
Zengo - 781 7th Street, NW, Washington DC. Located in the heart of Chinatown, the restaurant be debuting three dinner specials (2016 Dates to Be Announced) which represent longevity, happiness, wealth, and luck for the New Year. The new dishes, created by Chef de Cuisine Jason Streiff, are available exclusively during dinner service.
They include Waygu Beef Gyoza with pork, shrimp, serrano ham and a black vinegar sauce, which stands for luck and is priced at $15; Vegetable Spring Rolls with shiitake mushrooms, won bok, carrots, bean sprouts and a sweet and sour sauce, which stands for wealth and priced at $9, as well as Shrimp Lo Mein with mushrooms, roasted red peppers, scallions and cilantro, which represents longevity and happiness and is priced at $12.
The long noodles are served so that all guests at the table will have a long life. Additionally, all guests who enjoy dinner will receive a fortune cookie, offering up delicious complimentary prizes such a Mojito, an Angry Zengo Roll, or Churros.
