If you’re planning to work or live in Hong Kong, or visit Guangzhou or Shenzhen, you’ll need to apply for a visa at the Chinese embassy or consulate in the US. Below is the listings information for the Chinese Embassy and consulates in the US. If you're not sure if you need a visa, and tourists generally don't, see our article Do I Need a Visa for Hong Kong?

Note: Hong Kong does not maintain its own embassies; since the Hong Kong Handover, Hong Kong’s foreign affairs, including visa applications, are handled by Chinese Embassies worldwide.

Each of the below consulates and the main embassy are responsible for certain states and the Chinese Embassy warns that “sending your visa application or document(s) to the incorrect office may result in complication or delay in processing or even denial of application”.
