About the auditons
Some years auditions for The Brown-Forman Nutcracker are opened to the public. In 2013, it was the first time the auditions were open since 2009. At that time, 20 children were cast for this annual holiday favorite. Coming from local dance students, along with kids who have been training in the Louisville Ballet School, the children were active performers throughout the holiday show run. The Brown-Forman Nutcracker runs throughout the holiday season at The Kentucky Center. When the auditions are open, the Louisville Ballet expects over 100 local children, aged 7-18, to compete for the open dance positions.
"The Nutcracker has been a part of Louisville’s holiday landscape for over 50 years. Thanks to a generous gift from the Brown-Forman Corporation, the Louisville Ballet as able to create a completely refreshed and new production which premiered in December 2009. Based on a concept from Artistic Director Bruce Simpson and realized through the imaginations of acclaimed choreographer Val Caniparoli and world-renowned designer Peter Cazalet, this version of The Nutcracker has a decidedly Louisville feel – drawing images like the St.
James Fountain and Derby Jockeys into the production. Magic elements created specifically for this ballet by master illusionist, Marshall Magoon, complete this amazing experience."
