Home to one of the largest and most diverse LGBT populations in the country, Chicago plays host to a large, well-attended Black Pride event each year, taking place a couple of weeks after Chicago Gay Pride (which is held in mid-June). Chicago Black Pride (aka United Black Pride) is held in early July - the dates this year haven't officially been announced but are likely June 30 through July 3, 2017.
Events take place over 4th of July weekend and include a fireworks viewing at Navy Pier on Independence Day, a United Black Pride Rooftop Party, a picnic and beach party at Rainbow Beach, and several other gatherings.
Many of the parties and gatherings take place at downtown's Inn of Chicago (162 E. Ohio St., 866-493-4415), which offers special deals during the weekend - request the "Black Pride" rate when booking.
Chicago Gay Resources
There are several helpful resources if you're visiting town and wanting to learn a bit more about the gay scene. Have a look at local gay papers, such as the Windy City Times, for information. A great website covering the city's GLBT scene is ChicagoPride.com. Also visit the helpful GLBT site produced by the city's official tourism organization, the Chicago CVB.
