Michelin Stars/Chicago Bib Gourmands for 2016 Guide

Sixth Edition Highlights Top Restaurants In Windy City

Parachute

Not many changes are set for the 2016 Chicago Michelin Guide, which officially announced the restaurants earning stars on Tuesday, Oct. 27. The South Loop-based Acadia, which serves contemporary American cuisine inspired by coastal Maine, earned an additional star, and the year's biggest hit, Parachute, made it to the list in its first year in business. Dusek’s (Board & Beer), a highly-creative and down-to-earth gastropub in Pilsen, also garnered a star for the first time.

Everything else remains the same.

Here are the star recipients:

THREE STARS

Alinea: How do you best describe a restaurant that transcends an average fine-dining experience? From genius to God-like, the team at Alinea has heard it all and pretty much has snapped up every prestigious award known to mankind because of their skills. Owned by chef Grant Achatz and entrepreneur Nick Kokonas, the Lincoln Park-based restaurant's dishes are designed to encourage diners to think deeper about what they're consuming.

Grace: Former Charlie Trotter and Grant Achatz protégée Curtis Duffy has come into his own with this progressive American dining experience located in Chicago’s fashionable West Loop neighborhood. Focusing on the importance of herbs and seasonality, Grace offers two tasting menus: Flora, which focuses on vegetables; and Fauna, which highlights seafood and meat. It's garnered three Michelin stars, a James Beard award and additional accolades.

TWO STARS

Acadia: Located in the South Loop, Acadia is only a five-minute drive from Hilton Chicago. Owner Ryan McCaskey was an accomplished chef long before he set his sights on opening this highly successful boutique-style eatery in an industrial part of town. Acadia specializes in seasonal New England fare, with a strong emphasis on Maine, McCaskey's stomping grounds.

That means, of course, you'll find a nice share of seafood on the menu.

42 Grams: Who would have thought a restaurant of this caliber would be found outside of the downtown area? But build something great and the people will come--even when it's on the Far North Side neighborhood of Uptown. Chef/owner Jake Bickelhaupt boasts a resume that includes Alinea, the late Charlie Trotter's restaurant and Schwa, and his menu gleefully reflects his time spent in those kitchens.

Sixteen: Sixteen (named such because it's on the 16th floor) is a fine dining restaurant that serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner with white tablecloth level service and prices to match.

Those looking for value, yet quality when dining out should look to the 2016 Chicago Michelin Guide's Bib Gourmand. While most folks seek out those all-important Michelin-starred restaurants for special occasions, dining establishments awarded Bib Gourmands are equally important.

These are the everyday Chicago eateries favored by Michelin's esteemed and anonymous food inspectors, and what sets them apart from starred restaurants is that you can get two courses and a glass of wine or dessert for $40 or less (tax and gratuity not included).

For the 2016 edition, 10 newcomers have been added to the list (see *). They represent different neighborhoods, cuisines and more, but the most important factor is that they're all very good. See the entire list of Chicago Bib Gourmands below.
