Since 1924, the Charles County Fair has celebrated its agricultural heritage and history each summer with a family friendly fair featuring livestock, field corn, arts and crafts, quilts and flower displays, demonstrations, a carnival, live entertainment, special events, games, a baby show, pig races, pony rides, food and drink and much more. Located on 30 acres in Southern Maryland, the annual event is a regional favorite with fun activities for all ages. The Carnival Midway includes rides that spin, circle, drop, or move at a leisurely pace. For families with small children, there is a separate kiddie midway, located near the South Gate.
Dates and Times: September 14-17, 2017, Thursday – 4-11 p.m. Friday and Saturday – 8:30 a.m.- 11 p.m. Sunday – 9:30 a.m.-7 p.m.
The Charles County Fair presents musical groups from many genres including country, rock, gospel, dance, and folk. Local talent and dance troupes also perform on multiple stages located throughout the fairgrounds. Locations include the main stage, the food court tent, and the Greens area. Special events and activities include lawnmower racing, rodeo competitions, Police K-9 and EOD diving and robotics demonstrations, antique tractor displays, chainsaw wood carving, and the ever popular pig races! Activities for the kids include a pie eating contest, Kiddie Drving School, Old MacDonalds Farm, the clowns Bunky and Blinky and many more.
Getting to the Fairgrounds
Address: Charles County Fairgrounds, 8440 Fairgrounds Road, La Plata, MD. The fairgrounds are located 3 miles south of the town of La Plata just off of US Route 301.
From I-495: Take Exit 7A, Branch Ave south (MD Route 5), nine miles to US Route 301 south. Follow US Route 301 south approximately 18 miles through Waldorf and La Plata. The fairgrounds are on the left.
From Virginia: Take US Route 301 north across the Harry Nice Bridge and go about ten miles. Fairgrounds will be on right on Fairground Road.
Parking: Onsite parking iss available. However, satellite parking is recommended on Saturday and Sunday. Parking is available at the Charles County Courthouse/Government Building parking lot and the Bel Alton Volunter Fire Department with a free shuttle bus to the fair. Shuttles run from 12-10:00 p.m. on Saturday and 12-7 p.m. on Sunday.
Admission: Ages 11 and over - $5, Ages 10 and under - free. Four day passes are available for $12 and can be purchased at any entry gate. On the Friday of the fair, all school children are admitted free from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm.
