Being at the center of a cultural, fashion and music mecca, Miami attracts many of the rich, famous and beautiful to live on its sunny shores. If living in Miami keeps you young as the saying goes, then these celebs have discovered this fountain of youth.

Here are some of Miami's best-known inhabitants.

Gloria Estefan

The Latin singing sensation arrived in Miami from her native Cuba at the age of 2. Estefan's life story is tied closely to Miami.

Her singing career began when she was the lead singer of the group Miami Latin Boys which evolved into the Miami Sound Machine. Her first hit song was "Conga" in 1985.

In 1990, an accident almost took her life and came very close to ending her career. During this time, Miami residents inundated her with cards, flowers, and well-wishes. When Hurricane Andrew struck in 1992, Estefan was there for the city that loved her; she arranged and performed in a benefit concert raising millions of dollars for the victims.

Enrique Iglesias

Enrique is the son of legend Julio Iglesias, but he has charted his own path in the music industry. Having grown up in Miami, he adds an American flair to his songs and hit super-stardom hit in 1999 with the song "Bailamos" which means "We Dance" in Spanish. He lives in Miami Beach.

Anna Kournikova

Retired tennis player Kournikova Anna lives in Miami Beach. She never won a singles tennis title but won the Australian Open in 1999 and 2002 as part of a doubles team with Martina Hingis.

Lenny Kravitz

Singer, songwriter and producer Kravitz has been a pop music star since his 1989 debut album "Let Love Rule."  Kravitz won four consecutive Grammy awards for best male artist, and has notable movie roles to his credit as well, including the revolutionary designer Cinna in the 2012 hit film "The Hunger Games." He also lives in Miami Beach.

Shakira

This singer who hails from Colombia was raised listening to bands like The Police and Nirvana. Her best-known song is probably the provocative 2006 dance hit "Hips Don't Lie." Shakira's Lebanese father gave her an appreciation for Arabic sounds, which inform her unique Latin-Arabic fusion style. She lives in Sunset Island.

Oprah Winfrey

Although her main domicile is in Chicago, it's often possible to catch a glimpse of the actress, former talk show host and media mogul in Miami Beach, where she has a vacation house.

Part-Time Miami Celebrities

Although Los Angeles still leads other cities for the most celebrity residents, many Hollywood dwellers spend time off in the south of Florida. Actor Matt Damon, singer/actress Jennifer Lopez, singer Ricky Martin, retired basketball star Shaquille O'Neal, boxer Floyd Mayweather and singer/actress Cher all have second residences in the Miami or Miami Beach areas.

Spotting them while you're in Miami might be a little trickier than catching sight of the year-round inhabitants, but glamorous Miami Beach has plenty of options for celebrity sightings.
