No doubt one reason Cape Canaveral was chosen as America's center for space exploration because of its wonderful weather. The home to Kennedy Space Center and Visitor Complex, where thousands watched the space shuttles launch and now visit to explore space history, boasts moderate temperatures most of the year.

Cape Canaveral is also home to the busiest seaport in the world, Port Canaveral, where more than four million passengers embark on high-sea adventures each year. While the weather may be great when you sail, know that your cruise could be diverted to different ports of call during the Atlantic hurricane season due to high seas.

The Cape, as it is often referred to, is located along the Atlantic Coast of East Central Florida and has an overall average high temperature of 82° and an average low of 62°. Of course, Florida's weather is unpredictable, so there are extremes, including the highest recorded temperature of 102° that occurred in Cape Canaveral in 1980 or the extremely cold 17°  recorded in 1977. On average Cape Canaveral's warmest month is July and January is the average coolest month. The maximum average rainfall usually falls in September.

If you're wondering what to pack, follow your cruise line's suggestions for the time of year and itinerary. If you're visiting the Kennedy Space Center, bring along casual attire appropriate for the time of year. Always pack a bathing suit. Even if the water is too chilly to swim, sunbathing is a year-round sport in Florida.
