If you enjoy spending time with your dog and you enjoy time at the beach, then you have to check out the new dog beach south of Cocoa Beach. The dog beach is at the east end of Eau Gallie Blvd. in Indian Harbour Beach.

The beach has become a very popular dog hang out and is a great opportunity to take the dogs swimming in the ocean, socializing and the sun, or preferably shade bathing. On the beach there are possible giant friendly Bulldogs, little squeaky toy Chihuahuas and everything breed that ranges in-between; some of the dogs love the water and some dogs just want to sit and smell the fresh ocean air.

We took our West Highland White Terrier dogs and let them learn how to swim in the surf. Aside from trying to drink the salt water and the fear of the first wave they loved the experience.

As of 2012- the opening of the beach it is just a trial run but with dog lovers support the beach may expand in size in the future. Indian Harbour Dog Beach opened in late February 2012 to the public. Possible plans for expansion and growth of the area are included in the beach’s pilot program. To maintain the area and in hopes to expand the area of the beach to the north and south there are rules for the beach.

Some rules are: all dogs must be on leashes, all dogs must display current licenses and vaccinations in order to utilize the facility, owners must clean up after their dogs. Also, no digging is allowed, nor the harassment or harming of any sea turtles, sea turtle nests or hatchlings. Be sure to stay between the marked signs and enter the beach through the South crossover to avoid any fines.

The beach is supported by the grass roots organization called Sandy Paws Brevard. The group is taking sponsor and volunteers to help with their funding; keeping the beaches clean and keeping doggie clean up bag stations filled and clean.

Admission to Indian Harbour Dog Beach
