Canaan Valley Resort is a popular destination and a year-round resort that offers a wide variety of recreational opportunities in a beautiful setting amid 6,300 acres of state parkland in Davis, West Virginia. The property is about a three hour drive from Washington DC and includes overnight lodging, several restaurants, a world class golf course, conference facilities, a 43-slope ski area, a snow tubing trail, a fitness center, indoor and outdoor pools, whirlpool spa and miles of hiking, biking and cross country ski trails. Timberline Resort is located just up the road and boasts some of the longest ski runs in the south. In January 2015, the nearby Blackwater Falls State Park opened a one-quarter mile long sledding hill with a one-of-a-kind tow rope to the top.
Canaan Valley Resort and Conference Center opened a brand new lodge in 2013. The North and South wings are four levels with each level having 42 rooms. The configuration includes eight suites with a total of 160 sleeping rooms. Some guest rooms include fireplaces, balconies, ADA access, VIP suites and individual climate control. Renovations also include 4 new elevators, updated fire protection, electrical, and plumbing systems, parking lot repairs, landscaping, loading dock, and meeting rooms. Dining options at the resort include everything from lavish buffets at the glass-walled Hickory Dining Room to slopeside snacks at The Bear Paw Lodge. Canaan Valley Resort’s conference facilities are comprised of over 10,000 square feet of space, and are ideal for everything from retreats to reunions.

Getting to Canaan Valley

Located high in the Allegheny Mountains, Canaan Valley is surrounded by the Monongahela National Forest, and is adjacent to the Canaan Valley Wildlife Refuge and the Dolly Sods Wilderness Area.

Directions from Washington DC: Take I-66 West to I-81 South, Exit I-81 at US 48/VA55 (Exit #296) and follow west to Wardensville, WV. In Wardensville, US 48 becomes 4 lanes. Follow US 48 West until it ends. Turn left on Rt. 93 West following 93 to Davis, WV. Turn left on Rt 32 South and follow 11 miles to Canaan Valley Resort.

Cross Country Skiing

White Grass Cross Country Ski Center  maintains a 50 kilometer trail system. Lessons and guided tours are available for all levels. Rentals are available for all types of cross country skiing and snowshoeing.
