An Enduring Holiday Tradition in Springfield, MA
Forest Park, a 735-acre oasis in the city of Springfield, Massachusetts, plays host each holiday season to Bright Nights at Forest Park: New England's most enduring drive-through holiday light display. Bright Nights will celebrate its 22nd year of illuminating spirits and the night sky when it returns in 2016. The attraction typically opens near Thanksgiving and runs through the first few days of January (November 23-January 1 in 2016).
With animated and stationary light displays, this 2.5-mile holiday odyssey delights all ages, and it's particularly a favorite of group bus tours. A 5K road race through this enchanting holiday wonderland is also an annual sell-out.
The dazzling Barney Mansion, a replica in lights of the Victorian home that once graced these grounds, is a perennial favorite for photographers. Springfield businessman Everett Hosmer Barney, inventor of clip-on ice skates at the height of the Victorian skating craze, donated his estate's 178 acres to the park, and he convinced several of his wealthy neighbors to follow suit.
Bright Nights is located at 302 Sumner Avenue in Springfield, MA. For more information, call 413-733-3800.
