Brew at the Zoo Review

Brew at the Zoo is an annual festival held at Zoo Atlanta. The event is for adults, 21+ only, so it's a great time to explore the zoo if you want to do so sans-children. In addition to all-you-can-drink beer and wine sampling and access to the zoo exhibits, event attendees can also enjoy live music.

Things to Know about Brew at the Zoo:

Brew at the Zoo is one of the only chances ALL YEAR to enjoy a less crowded zoo environment with no kiddos running around. In my experience at the event, there were plenty of folks in attendance, but there was always room to get up close and view the animals. There were also very helpful and knowledgeable animal experts posted up at the popular exhibits to share interesting factoids about panda bears, tigers, and other Zoo Atlanta residents.

Upon entering the zoo you are given a small tasting cup that you keep to use throughout the event. Hang on to it so you can taste all the different beer and wine - but be warned that there were not rinsing stations at the booths, so expect to mix all types of beer and wine in your little glass.

Beer tents are organized by brand and located throughout the zoo. A map is provided to guide you to tasting stations, but the type of beer is not listed, so just wander around and enjoy the surprise! Lines for beer got quite long, but moved quickly. Lines for wine were shorter, but most wine tents ran out earlier than the kegs. Be prepared to spend a good amount of time in line, but don't worry - there is more than enough time to see all the zoo exhibits over the four hour event.

A line for the event forms outside the zoo gates beginning at 5 p.m. (doors open at 5:30), so get there early to maximize your drinking time. If you do get stuck in a long admission line, don't despair - it moves pretty quickly.

Food is available for purchase at the event, but the selection is limited to hot dogs, burgers, and pizza - none of which is anything to write home about. For alternative food options, try a nearby Grant Park area restaurant.
