Boston isn’t exactly known as the Mexican food capital of the world, but as more restaurants and bars serving craft cocktails are introduced to the city (there are lots!), there are several spots dedicated to creating unique and delicious margaritas. Here, not necessarily in any order, are 11 of the best.

Loco Taqueria & Oyster Bar

This South Boston staple is home to some of the best margaritas in Boston. Popular options include the Coco, El Jefe, Little Devil and The Britney. While you're at it, order some tacos and oysters and stay for a while.

Lolita Cocina & Tequila Bar

This Mexican restaurant was a popular Back Bay spot for years and recently opened another location in the up-and-coming Fort Point neighborhood. The Lolita margarita is made with blanco tequila, house orange liqueur, lime and grapefruit. Other options include the Spicy Cucumber, Frolita (frozen margarita) and Mayan Mule.

Citrus & Salt

Described as "coastal Mexican," this Instagram-worthy restaurant has its fair share of delicious cocktails. Their signature is the Citrus & Salt Margarita, made with el jimador blanco, orange liqueur, lime, agave, citrus-salt rim. It's available on-the-rocks or frozen - and you can take your pick of flavors including blood orange and ginger, strawberry, blackberry and guava.

The Border Cafe

Probably the most inexpensive menu of margaritas on the list, but that doesn’t mean the Border Cafe, located in Cambridge, skimps on taste or quality. Start out with a frozen Margarita Grande, then hit the rocks and work your way up to the Hornitos and the special Patron margarita. Fill up afterward with the ridiculously-priced Tex-Mex specials, including the crispy, delicious corn and black bean empanadas.

Sunset Cantina

You’ll notice a similar food and beer menu here to sister restaurant Sunset Grill, but this Commonwealth Avenue location has made its own distinction thanks to its diverse tequila and margarita menus. For a super splurge, go with either the Mob Boss, which includes Patron Platinum, or the Billionaires Margarita, made with a special, top-shelf aged Don Julio Real.

Sol Azteca

No disrespect to the sangria, once named “Best of Boston” by Boston Magazine, but the margaritas are no slouch either at this Mexican restaurant with locations in Newton and Brookline. On a hot day, enjoy the frozen mango margarita. For special occasions, the Cadillac or Patron Anejo, which means “aged” will do just fine.

Fajitas & Ritas

There’s an extremely extensive drink menu at this downtown restaurant, highlighted by the margaritas. Choose from a glass or liter of the frozen options, or the “Straight Up,” in addition to a long list of specialty tequilas. Located just steps from the Financial District, Fajitas & Ritas is another popular spot for after-work gatherings.

Casa Romero

One of the most authentic Mexican restaurants the area has to offer, this Cambridge spot offers some of the most unique margaritas available. How about the Apple Sour Tequila Cocktail or the house original “Romerita”, featuring El Jimador Tequila Reposado.

Ole Mexican Grill

Ole Mexican Grill, located in Cambridge, has been voted best Mexican restaurant in the area by numerous publications, and a big part of that is the margarita list, featuring favorites such as the Ole Margarita and the Bella Rita, a hibiscus-infused creation. Ole also features flights of tequila.

Masa Boston

This South End Tex-Mex favorite boasts an original lineup of margaritas, including the Sangria Margarita, the Haberno Watermelon Margarita, and the Cucumber Anaheim Margarita.

Temazcal Tequila Cantina

Temazcal Tequila Cantina is located in Boston's Seaport neighborhood and serves up Mexican cuisine with a drink menu of margaritas. Try the Fresca, made with St. Germain, strawberry, blood orange and cucumber, or the En Fuego, which has jalapeno-infused tequila.
