Blacks Nude Beach
Black's Beach in the San Diego area is located in the town of La Jolla next to Torrey Pines State Beach.
The photo above shows Black’s Beach from the northern section of Torrey Pines State Beach. It was taken at high tide.
Black's Beach is at the base of 300-foot-high sandstone cliffs. It's two miles long and as wide as 60 feet at low tide.
As many as 1,000 people may show up at Black's Beach, according to our reader Brad, who did an informal count on a hot summer day.
Nudity bans are enforced on the south end of Blacks Beach, in the city-owned section - and possibly in the clothed part of Torrey Pines State Beach. If you visit, help keep Black's open for nude recreation by respecting the boundary signs and covering up if you're going beyond them.
Hang gliders and remote control airplanes also hover nearby.
What to Do at Blacks Beach
Surfing, snorkeling, boogie boarding, jogging, volleyball, tide pooling, and swimming
Stingrays rest in the water just beneath... the sand's surface. Shuffle your feet as you walk in the water to scare them away before you accidentally step on one and get a painful sting.
More Nude Beaches
For many years, San Diegans enjoyed clothing optional recreation at San Onofre Beach, near the northern edge of San Diego County. However, the state park now enforces their nudity regulations and issue citations for nudity.
There are no official nude beaches in Los Angeles or Ventura Counties. Your next best option may be to visit some of the clothing optional resorts near San Diego.

Blacks Beach Reviews and Rating: What Our Readers have to Say
A great place if you love the freedom of tanning without a swimsuit. More men than women, and a small percentage are clothed. I think mostly the curious, "looky loos" and teen boys. When I visit alone, I try to lay by a couple or other single women, always asking if they didn't mind. I love Black's Beach and most of my experiences have been great. Yes there is that random man that tries to get really close and stare, but I'll just move. Blacks isn't a "pick up" place but more of a place to meet nice people who share the love of sunbathing at the beach. There are no bathrooms. Most go in the water, or discreetly near the mountains edge. Warning!! The hike down is easy but I recommend tennis. The hike up is difficult. I walk everyday and consider myself to be in pretty good shape, but it's still difficult. Take your time, and take plenty of 1 or 2 min breaks. If you're climbing on a hot day, don't forget water. I've encountered people... in distress.
61% say they don't like Blacks Beach?
1 drawback is no facilities on the beach though there are portapotties @ the glider port. BLACK'S is A BLAST! I agree that some should probably leave their clothes on, but hey this is part of what American freedom is all about. There is nothing better than a beach without having to wear a suit. I have seen families with their kids there. GREAT! Our society could be a lot healthier mentally if we would quit treating the body as a commodity. Which brings the point, DO NOT ATTEMPT SEXUAL ACTIVITY ON THIS BEACH. Not with yourself or others. I've been gawked at and even approached. I just let the guys know this gal isn't interested, tx. The beach is clean, I've seen Herons, seals, & loads of sea birds. Watching the hang & paragliders & if they still allow them radio controlled planes is a blast. Military fly overs. Tourist choppers & in between action & nature there's serene peace
Too many old people
It seemed like all the hot women were clothed and all the old people were naked. Other than that, I had a great time.

Getting to Blacks Beach
If you want an interactive version of the map above or need driving directions, use the San Diego Beach map at Google.
Getting to Black's Beach from the Glider Port
If you have a GPS, set it for 2800 Torrey Pines Scenic Drive, which is the glider port address.
"You can park anywhere in the dirt lot, but it closes at sunset" according to Paul.
Dick recommends: "Be real paranoid about your valuables - see the monthly police report for the Torrey Pines neighborhood. Hide your stuff before you get to the parking lot!" Or - even better - take it out of the car and leave it at home.
Facing the ocean, you'll see the trail at the left end of the parking area. The path from the glider port to the beach is marked with a sign that says it's unsafe and unstable, but that doesn't keep people from using the path regularly. We'd suggest walking with caution - and wear shoes with gripping soles to give you better traction.
You'll find port-a-potties in the glider... port parking lot.
A Safer Way to Get to Blacks Beach
The walk to the beach from this spot is a longer (20 minutes) walk, but it's safer.
Instead of turning onto Torrey Pines Scenic Road to get to the glider port, continue on North Torrey Pines Road to La Jolla Shores Drive and turn right. Immediately turn right again onto La Jolla Farms Road. Where it intersects Blackgold Road (which comes from the right), you'll see a paved path going to the left. This spot has some street parking with a two-hour limit.
