    Tucson population: 530,706 (33rd largest in the U.S.)
    Mesa population: 484,587 (36th largest in the U.S.)
    Chandler population: 247,477 (84th largest in the U.S.)
    Scottsdale population: 246,645 (85th largest in the U.S.)
    Glendale population: 245,895 (86th largest in the U.S.)
    Gilbert population: 237,133 (93rd largest in the U.S.)
    Tempe population: 182,498 (133rd largest in the U.S.)
    Peoria population: 164,173 (156th largest in the U.S.)
    Surprise population: 132,677 (202nd largest in the U.S.)

    Arizona's Largest Cities All Grew in Population

    There are 303 cities in the U.S. with a population over 100,000, according to July 2016 U.S. Census estimates. Ten of them are in Arizona and all of them grew in population last year.

    Phoenix moved up one spot, overtaking Philadephia as the 5th largest city in the country. The following cities also moved up in rank with the new estimate:

    • Mesa
    • Gilbert
    • Glendale
    • Scottsdale
    • Tempe
    • Surprise

    Of those 303 cities:

    Phoenix is ranked #5 and grew 11.3% from 2010 to 2016.

    Tucson is ranked #33 and grew 1.8% from 2010 to 2016.

    Mesa is ranked #36 and grew 9.9% from 2010 to 2016.

    Chandler is ranked #84 and grew 4.6% from 2010 to 2016.

    Scottsdale is ranked #85 and grew 13.3% from 2010 to 2016.

    Glendale is ranked #86 and grew 8.5% from 2010 to 2016.

    Gilbert is ranked #93 and grew 13.2% from 2010 to 2016.

    Tempe is ranked #133 and grew 12.4% from 2010 to 2016.

    Peoria is ranked #156 and grew 6.4% from 2010 to 2016.

    Surprise is ranked #202 and grew 12.7% from 2010 to 2016.
