Home to prestigious Vassar College and an attractive downtown that's a great base for exploring the area's many attractions, Poughkeepsie is the site of the Annual Big Gay Hudson Valley's Queen City Poughkeepsie Pride Weekend, which is scheduled to take place this year in mid-June - the dates are June 10 through 12, 2016.

Organizers of this celebratory weekend in scenic and sophisticated Dutchess County bill this as the "kickoff to summer," and indeed, the entire Hudson Valley is a magnet for gay visitors all summer long, and other Gay Pride events take place around this time, including Hudson Valley Gay Pride a week earlier across the river, in New Paltz and Kingston; Rockland County Gay Pride across the river in Nyack the same weekend; and Hudson NY Gay Pride, farther north in the small, hip Columbia County city of Hudson.

And, of course, up in the state capital, there's Albany Gay Pride also taking place in June.

Events this year include Queenpin Bowling at the newly renovated Spins Bowl on Friday; the Queen City Tea Dance at Union Tavern and Jackie Hoffman performing her one-woman show at the CIA, both on Saturday, and the Queen City Pride Picnic, which on Sunday, returns to the beautiful Locust Grove Estate on U.S. 9 in Poughkeepsie.

Additionally, local gay bars as well as gay-friendly restaurants, hotels, and shops will attract plenty of LGBT folks throughout Pride weekend.
