For me, that's "Mad Men." Living in Manhattan, watching New York-based shows is always inspiring, and it's especially fun to catch "Mad Men's" Easter eggs, which offer glimpses of modern Manhattan through a mid-century lens. Sure, it was a vastly different time (the days of the three-martini lunch are long gone for most), but that nostalgia can be a fun way to appreciate the city, whether you know it well, or are planning to visit. — Emily Manchester, senior analyst, SEO & growth Watch on: Netflix Continue to 9 of 14 below. 09 of 14 The Sheltering Sky Recorded Picture Company Vast and beautiful, this film immediately inspired me to want to travel more—but differently. I had grown up going mainly to see the typical sights (castles, churches, museums, etc.), but the poetic vision of "The Sheltering Sky" caused me to want to roam and wander more, to discover without as much planning. I eventually ended up seeing many of the filming locations, Ouarzazate and Tamnougalt in Morocco among them, and one of the film's opening lines, "We're not tourists, we're travelers," has guided my travel decisions ever since. — Todd Coleman, creative content director Watch on: Amazon Video ($2.99) Continue to 10 of 14 below. 10 of 14 Amélie Lionsgate This French comedy starring Audrey Tautou features iconic Parisian backdrops that will make you feel like you've just been transported to the streets of Montmartre.
