Vermont is one of New England's most beloved destinations year-round. It has gorgeous summers, great fall foliage, and a long ski season. It's also a hot spot for spas. This list represents some of the best overnight spas in Vermont. It includes both hotel and resort spas, where you can sample as little or as much of the spa experience as you want, and destination spas, which offer a complete immersion experience with an emphasis on transformation and self-improvement.
Many resort spas welcome clients on a day spa basis.
This 68-room luxury boutique resort offers a truly singular experience amid the 120 acres of hiking, biking, and skiing near the charming ski village of Stowe. The resort is contemporary, chic and sleek, and there are privately owned two and three bedroom homes to rent as well. Already excellent, the 35,000 square foot Topnotch Spa has new “Pathways to Wellness” program with packages that go beyond the treatment room, to include wake up smoothies, meditations classes, and even soothing spa-infused turndowns. Don't miss the Mount Mansfield Saucha, one of my all-time favorite spa treatments. An equestrian center is right across the street, it has one of the country's top tennis academies, and skiing at Mt. Mansfield is just a short ride away.
Stoweflake is one of the original inns around Stowe, Vermont, the great ski destination.
It's owned by the same family that opened it in 1963 and is still an affordable, family-friendly resort. It's set right on Mountain Road, in between Vermont's highest peak, Mt. Mansfield and charming Stowe Village, with its boutiques and restaurants. The Spa at Stoweflake is 50,000 square feet, and what makes it special is its commitment to authentic Ayurvedic treatments offered alongside the usual complement of Western spa treatments.
Recent updates have made it a great place to stay, and the staff is super-friendly.
Set on 2,300 acres between the Green and Taconic Mountains, The Equinox in Manchester, Vermont, was a famous resort throughout the 19th century and has been restored to its former glory. Golf? Driving a Range Rover? Hiking? They can set you up. And since this is the home of Orvis, fly-fishing is a specialty (as it outlet shopping.) The 13,000-square-foot spa had 10 treatment rooms and nourishing treatments with a local flavor.
If you love to hike all day, this is the spa for you. Open from mid-May through October, New Life Hiking Spa now operates out of Cortina Inn & Resort in Mendon, Vermont, in the heart of the Green Mountains. Three levels of guided hikes are offered each day, and you can go as fast or as slow as you want. It's also affordable, including a deluxe room with a private bath, three healthy and freshly prepared meals per day, fruits and vegetables as snacks, all hikes, fitness and yoga classes, one massage or spa service for every three-night stay, evening lectures, and cooking demos.
This is a serious weight-loss program with a long history of helping women develop a healthier relationship to food -- and themselves.
This is not the place to drop ten pounds in a week. Green Mountain wants you to let go of yo-yo dieting, "good food/bad food," and begin to heal your relationship with food. Most women come for four weeks because it takes that long to change the habits of a lifetime. The program is highly structured, with an emphasis on three key areas -- behavior, nutrition, and physical activity. Spa treatments are available in modest rooms.
