Sorrento is the gateway to the glamorous Amalfi Coast, but is a bit removed from the glitz and the crowds of Positano and Amalfi, making it a great (and more affordable) alternative to those towns. The hotels here tend to be less expensive than the ones further along the coast and are well-positioned for day trips to Naples, Pompeii, Capri, and the rest of the coast. But check into one of these charming hotels and you might be tempted to skip the more famous towns and relax by the pool or at the beach club and soak up the historic atmosphere in Sorrento instead. Whether you’re planning to make Sorrento your base or one of the stops on a larger trip, you’ll find the right hotel for your needs in our expert list. They might lack some of the wow factor, but in exchange offer great value and views without the crowds. Keep in mind that most of the beach clubs are on wooden or concrete decks rather than sandy beaches. Sorrento has some truly unique hotels, from the historic Grand Hotel Excelsior Vittoria overlooking the port to the Gio Ponti-designed Parco dei Principi, which feels exactly as it did when it opened in 1962.
