Built from an 1880’s mansion and a member of the Historic Hotels of America, La Posada de Santa Fe preserves antique features and local character while still providing a modern resort experience. Located just outside the city center, guests can easily walk to nearby shops, restaurants, and attractions.

In the courtyard, a heated saline pool and whirlpool spa are open throughout the year, with a poolside bar dispensing drinks and snacks to guests relaxing on the sun loungers. There is also a rooftop terrace with garden and mountain views. A weekly schedule of activities includes afternoon teas, tequila tastings, social cheese, and wine receptions, yoga classes, and fireside s’mores toasting.

Best for Luxury: The Inn of The Five Graces

Located next to the State Capitol building just outside the city center, the Inn of The Five Graces has a quieter setting than many other nearby hotels while still offering access to the restaurants, shops, and attractions of downtown with an easy two-minute walk.

Vibrant bedding, antique furniture, and artworks in traditional designs on the walls add character to guest rooms, of which many have a fireplace and bathroom with soaking tub and separate shower.

The spa is visually stunning, with colorful tile mosaics in Native American designs, intricate latticework windows, and marble-lined hallways. The spa services are just as indulgent as the setting, with Ayurvedic treatments using oils infused with herbs and flowers, Himalayan salt stone massages, ginger sugar scrubs, and aromatic steam room experiences.

Complimentary breakfast includes a made-to-order meal accompanied by artisan bread, homemade granola and freshly brewed coffee. The breakfast room is quaint and cozy, with detailed wall mosaics and a large wood-burning fireplace, while through French doors a sunny courtyard with fountains makes a lovely spot to dine in pleasant weather.

Next door to the hotel, the 315 Restaurant and Wine Bar serves gourmet French cuisine and offers room service to the hotel during business hours.

Best Budget: El Rey Court

Located in the geographical heart of Santa Fe, El Rey Court offers convenient access to many of Santa Fe’s attractions and great transport links to areas outside town. Built on the path of the original Route 66, the hotel is constructed in the traditional adobe fashion of the area and has been an iconic local landmark since opening its doors in 1936.

The hotel buildings are set around a central courtyard, which features a terrace with a swimming pool, a separate garden terrace with hot tubs, and tables and benches set under shady trees for outdoor dining.

Drinks are available from the La Reina bar, which offers regional spirits in the form of tequila, mezcals and handcrafted agave cocktails, as well as a decent selection of wines, craft beers, and conventional liquors. Although there is no on-site restaurant, there are many casual restaurants and cafes within easy walking distance.

The rooms are uniquely decorated with locally made artwork, with many having wood-burning fireplaces and outdoor spaces.

Best Boutique: Eldorado Hotel & Spa

The Eldorado Hotel & Spa provides a luxury boutique experience in the historic downtown of Santa Fe. The décor throughout the hotel is described as New Mexico Pueblo Revival, with contemporary artworks by a local Navajo artist adorning the walls.

The Nidah Spa provides an indulgent experience, with signature therapies including the spun gold massage, which uses warm chamomile oil infused with flecks of gold. Other treatments include cactus toning wraps, salt and sugar scrubs and Himalayan hot stone massages.

The hotel will soon be opening a brand-new rooftop pool, which will feature a main pool, two hot tubs, sun loungers, and cabanas. Best for Families: Four Seasons Resort Rancho Encantado Santa Fe

Set amid the rugged foothills of the Sangre de Cristo mountains, Four Seasons Resort Rancho Encantado Santa Fe makes an ideal base for exploring the harsh but beautiful desert landscape. Experienced tour guides lead excursions into the surrounding countryside, exploring rocky outcrops, wildflower meadows, seasonal streamlines and weather-carved canyons on foot, mountain bike, and horseback.

Tours are also educational, uncovering a wealth of information about the geological history of the region and the rich cultural heritage of the indigenous First Nations peoples. Other activities that can be arranged through the Adventure Center include white water rafting, golfing, fly fishing and hot air ballooning.

La Fonda on the Plaza is a centrally located hotel close to the central plaza by the Cathedral Basilica of St. Francis Assisi and the Loretto Chapel.
