The Best Hotel Gyms in San Francisco

In this day and age, it’s no longer acceptable for a hotel to have a few worn down treadmills for guests. Oh, no. Guests expect to have their home gym available while they’re on vacation and especially when traveling for business. And generally, as a city, San Francisco does not slack on the workouts. So what do you get when you combine the two? Hotels with state-of-the-art 24-hour fitness centers, passes to local studio classes around town and plenty of bikes to ride around town. Here are our top five favorite hotel gyms in the entire seven-by-seven area.

    580 Geary St.
    Telephone: (800) 227-4223

It may seem odd to include a hotel that doesn’t actually have a fitness center on this list.  But the Alise Pineapple does have cruisers to borrow, along with helmets and locks—and let’s be honest, cruising on a cruiser up San Francisco’s hills is probably the biggest workout you could ask for. Of course, you could go for a slightly mellower ride and follow “the Wiggle” designated bike path to Golden Gate Park for a picnic.

    Westin St. Francis
    ••• Westin St. Francis

     Neighborhood: Union Square
    335 Powell St.

With a recently completed renovation, the WestinWorkout Fitness Studio is ready for hour-long iron pumping sessions. Six thousand-square-feet are filled with the latest equipment from PreCor Ellipticals to Powermill Climbers. It’s complementary to guests and open 24 hours a day. Forgot your running shoes at home? How about all your workout gear? It’s not a problem here. The Westin St. Francis has teamed up with New Balance to supply shoes, apparel, and accessories to guests through a loan program. If that sounds icky, it’s not. The running shoes come with brand new disposable insoles and clothes get a thorough washing after every use. The socks, however, are yours to keep. It’s a small $5 fee per person.

And if having a beautiful, 24-hour gym and rental gear is not enough motivation, the hotel also has tailored running maps through their concierge desk so you can explore the city while getting your heart rate up....MORE Seriously, they couldn’t make it easier.
