Hotel gyms have come a long way over the years. A few worn-down treadmills are no longer acceptable. Instead, guests expect to find the same comforts they do at their own home gyms while traveling for business and pleasure. Thankfully, San Francisco is an active city and most of its lodgings abide by the adage that exercise is a part of everyday life. This means state-of-the-art 24-hour fitness centers, passes to studio classes around town, and complimentary bicycle use are often par for the course. Want to stay fit while you're in town? Here are our top five favorite hotel gyms in the entire seven-by-seven city.

It may seem odd to include a hotel that doesn’t actually have a fitness center on its premises, but the Staypineapple SF provides both passes to a nearby fitness center and offers stylish beach cruisers for touring the town. If we're being honest (and we are!), bicycling up one of San Francisco's notorious hills is probably one of the biggest and best workouts you can get! For a less dramatic exercise session, opt for a ride along the city's designated (and relatively flat) "Wiggle" connecting Market Street with Golden Gate Park.

This 6,000-square-feet space is filled with everything from PreCor Ellipticals to Powermill Climbers and comes complementary to guests 24-hours a day. Forgot your running shoes at home? Failed to pack your workout clothes? Don't worry: the Westin and New Balance have teamed up to provide on-loan shoes, apparel, and accessories for a $5 fee per stay. While the sneakers come with brand new disposable insoles and clothes get a thorough washing after every use, the socks are yours to keep. The hotel also has its own running concierge who leads city runs several morning a week. Seriously, they couldn't make exercising easier if they tried.
