Like every big city, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania has its share of hotels. If you're planning a romantic trip for two to Philadelphia, these are among the ones that are best suited to cater to couples -- as opposed to the many hotels overflowing with school groups and families with children who troop through Philadelphia to tour its historic treasures. Naturally, the time of year you visit will have a lot to do with hotel prices and who your fellow travelers might be.
A gathering place for sophisticates, the elegant Ritz-Carlton Philadelphia is a full-service city hotel located on the Avenue of the Arts across from City Hall. The ambiance is genteel and romantic and guest rooms are spacious and comfortable.

Its no surprise that TripAdvisor members voted Hotel Palomar the top hotel in Philadelphia. As with other Kimpton hotels weve visited, it has the right combination of whimsy and sophistication. Consider its location in the heart of Philly's best restaurants, its pet friendliness, an abundance of perks, and Hotel Palomar is a great nest for couples.
The hotel supplies a jogging map in room, but we say: Take it slow so you can window shop along nearby Walnut Street. Ralph Lauren, Tiffany & Co., Kiehls, BCBG Max Azria, H&M, Brooks Brothers, Coach, and L'Occitane are among the hundreds of shops in the immediate vicinity.
Like all Kimpton hotels, this one offers complimentary early morning coffee and tea in the lobby and also hosts a complimentary daily wine hour, from 5pm to 6pm.
Sister hotel to the equally charming Hotel Palomar, this younger sibling is a better location if you're interested in exploring Old Town Philadelphia. Right across the street from many of Philadelphia's most venerable attractions, including the Liberty Bell and Independence Hall, Kimpton Hotel Monaco is a fine place to revel in history... and perhaps make some of your own.
As with all Kimpton hotels, the decor here is fresh, playful, and unexpected. In the past we've taken issue with Kimptons' robes that come in two sizes, small-small and medium-small. Here the medium robe has been replaced by a large, full-length gray hoodie so everyone who dons one, including heavyweight contenders, can feel like a champ out of Rocky.
The hotel aims to please, and its staff is deputized to do what it takes to make a couples stay memorable. Anything from special bubble bath to a snack or dessert tray to a bed of roses may await a couple visiting on their honeymoon or anniversary.
Rittenhouse 1715 is an upscale bed-and-breakfast that contains eight rooms and two suites inside a renovated 1911 townhouse. Although it has limited facilities, its location on a small side street off tony Rittenhouse Square will appeal to couples who prefer to lodge in an intimate place, rather than a busy hotel, in one of the city's best neighborhoods.
Small and quiet, Rittenhouse 1715 has several qualities a couple taking a short getaway might appreciate. It is located on a safe side street perfect for stealing a kiss, provides a comfortable kingsize bed, and two easily can fit in the shower. And if there were children around when we visited, they were neither seen nor heard.
Continental breakfast is the only meal available at Rittenhouse 1715 and it is served in a bright room in the hotel basement. The spread includes juice, croissants, bagels, banana bread, fruit salad, coffee, and tea. There is no room service. If you get hungry after breakfast, there is a grocery store around the corner and any number of restaurants a few blocks away.
If you want to splurge and taste flavors and combinations both savory and sophisticated, make a reservation to eat at Alma de Cuba nearby, order up some mojitos, and be prepared to experience wonderfully inventive cuisine and superior service.
Like all of the Four Seasons hotels, this one is top of the line. The hotel is located in Main Line Philadelphia.
Get in the college spirit! This is one of the better hotels conveniently located near the University of Pennsylvania. Just don't plan on visiting during homecoming weekend.
What makes Loews so popular with dog owners is its pet-friendly policy. The updated hotel is inside one of Philadelphia's National Historic Landmark buildings.
Ideal for couples who prefer the train to driving, this hotel is close to the 30th Street Philadelphia Amtrak station as well as Philadelphia's historic theater district.
