Kendall is one of Miami's fastest growing suburbs and has a wide variety of restaurants catering to almost any taste. In this article, we take a look at some of my favorite places to grab a bite to eat in the southern part of Miami-Dade County.
Anacapri Italian Restaurant
Anacapri's is an excellent choice for dinner whether you're going on a nice date or just having a jeans-and-t-shirt dinner with friends. The food is excellent and reasonable, the service is always congenial, and the attached Italian market has a great selection of imported meats, cheeses, and fresh pasta. Reservations recommended.
Bonefish Grill features a wide variety of market fresh seafood. Located on SW 120th Street, Bonefish is one of my favorite places to stop for dinner and drinks. The bar features an excellent selection of scotches for those with a discerning palate. I also strongly recommend the Ahi Tuna Sashimi appetizer!
Bahama Breeze is a chain restaurant, but it's still one of my favorites. Located on Kendall Drive just west of Florida's Turnpike, this restaurant features tiki torches, an outdoor patio and a unique tropical cuisine.
Big Tomato features a unique style of tomato pie. (Don't call it pizza or they might just kick you out of the restaurant!) Their pies feature a light crust and plenty of tomatoes, bubbling cheese and whatever toppings fit your heart's desire. It's hard to explain why Big Tomato is a South Miami institution. Stop by and try it for yourself!
Don't let the small exterior of this place fool you; inside is one of the best atmosphere's I've found anywhere in Miami. A decor of Italian knick-knacks and paintings makes one feel quite at home, while the small size feels more like a large dining room. The dress is casual, but don't plan on bringing children; they don't have high chairs. Reservations are recommended.
