The Best New Honeymoon Hotels for 2018

New hotels around the world compete to entice honeymoon couples and other romantics to stay with them—and hopefully become return guests for many years to come.

Many of the following properties, which opened in 2017 or will open in 2018, feature elements in the following five trends that will particularly appeal to twosomes in love:

  • Rooftop Romance: Swimming pools on hotel rooftops are the new gathering  spots, particularly when there's an adjacent bar and places to lounge by the water and take in the views.
  • Culinary Sizzle: Hotel restaurants are often underrated. Today's best new hotels have brought in well-known chefs to spice up their menus and add a personal touch. And most are sensitive to using fresh local products whenever possible.
  • Name-brand Expansion: Appealing to loyalists (and travelers who amass points for frequent overnight stays), hotel groups including Hilton, Kimpton, Starwood, Sandals, the Four Seasons, and others have added new properties in different locations to their portfolio.
  • Convenience, Plus:  Features such as a ski hotel's on-site chairlift and free shuttle service are designed to give couples more time for fun and less time waiting.
  • Enhanced Service: Where once you could grow old waiting for someone to answer the phone, today your new hotel may provide a dedicated concierge or butler. The most over-the-top we've discovered is a hotel with a s’mores butler for those melting moments.

Whether you're looking to cozy up after a day on the slopes or bare it all on the beach, here are the best new honeymoon hotels to consider for 2018.

Waldorf-Astoria Beverly Hills, California

Rooftop pool at the Waldorf Astoria Beverly Hills.
Hilton Hotels.

Few brands have the cachet of Waldorf-Astoria. And it's well-deserved; everything at the Waldorf-Astoria Beverly Hills is top-of-the-line, from the personal concierge assigned to each couple to the house car, a Rolls-Royce. (Located at the intersection of Wilshire and Santa Monica boulevards, the Waldorf is walking distance to Rodeo Drive.)

The decor in each of the 170 guest rooms reflects a contemporary interpretation of Hollywood glamour combined with the Streamline Moderne style of the 1930s and 40s. Step inside, and you can imagine debonair Fred Astaire wearing his top hat and tails and tapping out a welcome message.

Hotel Sanders, Copenhagen

A hygge bedroom at Copenhagen's Hotel Sanders.
Hotel Sanders.

Denmark, particularly Copenhagen, is having a moment. It's not just because of Tivoli Gardens, which has limited winter hours. Nor is it because couples want to see the Little Mermaid statue down by the harbor or Amalienborg Palace, home of the Danish royal family. Rather, the country's concept of hygge—cozy conviviality—has caught on around the world. Add to that a Copenhagen cultural renaissance and Hotel Sanders, with its welcome basket based on your personal interests and tastes and a proximity to picturesque Nyhavn canal, is the place to be.
