Who among us doesn't love ice cream? It's almost the perfect summer treat. Cool, sweet and creamy, it tingles your mouth and gives you a brain freeze that brings you back to your childhood. I prefer to enjoy ice cream year-round. It's a little reminder that winter will be over and summer will come again. Here are some of the best places to enjoy ice cream in Little Rock.
You'll see Loblolly products show up at restaurants around the city, but they have their own location too! Loblolly Creamery makes small-batch ice cream and serves 32 flavors at a time as well as craft Milkshakes, floats, sundaes. You can also find house-made macarons, marshmallows, and sodas.
The Purple Cow
When people talk about The Purple Cow, it's not the burgers and fries or soups and salads they mention, even though those are great too. People talk about the monster milkshakes. Try the purple vanilla or my personal favorite, the peanut butter. The Purple Cow is pricey for an everyday ice cream treat but it's a nice sit down restaurant with something for kids.
Hot dogs and frozen custard, who could ask for anything more? Fun dog theme with lots of interesting hot dogs. Located in North Little Rock.
Shake's doesn't have ice cream. They have frozen custard. If you've never tried frozen custard, you're in for a treat. From the first bite, you know you're not eating ice cream. It's much smoother and creamier. It tastes like you're eating silk. Don't be fooled though, a cup of Shake's is just as calorie laden as a cup of any ice cream you can find. It's hard to say which is better, ice cream or custard. We say try them both!
The Dreamy Spoon self-serve frozen yogurt is located in Maumelle, but it's worth the drive. This is a locally owned spot with fun flavors you won't find at the chains plus a great atmosphere. They use fresh fruit toppings and try to use organic whenever possible.
ZaZa's is a restaurant, but they have fresh gelato. The gelato is reason to visit by itself.
This is a nice little dairy bar serving up burgers, dairy treats and it's locally owned. Located in North Little Rock.
This one is great for nostalgia. Located at 6406 Congo Road in Benton, it's like the dairy bar your grandma used to go to. They server burgers and fries, too.
You can drive through and get a treat or use the indoor and outdoor seating. The name stands for "This Country's Best Yogurt" and their product, while probably not the best, is pretty good. TCBY actually stated in Little Rock, Arkansas in 1981. They make great cakes too. There are three TCBY locations in Little Rock on West Markham, Airport Drive, and Cantrell and one in North Little Rock in Lakewood.
Lots of flavors. Maggie Moos makes ice cream fresh at each store. 17821 Chenal Parkway, 501-821-7609.
Cold Stone Creamery
Cold Stone Creamery is a chain that makes great ice cream. It's heaven for ice cream lovers. You can mix in any flavor and topping you want. I've yet to taste a bad flavor. You can sit indoors or outdoors on benches.
