Best Jamaica All-Inclusive Resorts for Families

Famous for its drop-dead-gorgeous beaches of white, sugary sand, the beautiful island of Jamaica is chock full of resorts that welcome families and many of them offer all-inclusive pricing to boot. Those that stand out go the extra mile by offering nice extras such as kids camps, water parks, babysitting services, and tons of family-fun activities to keep everyone happy.

    Beaches is the family resort brand of the Sandals group and is a big name in all-inclusive resorts. Features include kids' programs for different ages, infant care, Sesame Street characters and activities, and gaming centers. Beaches Ocho Rios is on the north coast of the island and offers novelty pools, snorkeling, scuba, and complimentary golf with special "golf for kids" sessions. Ocho Rios is a two-hour drive or a short plane hop from Montego Bay.

    Franklyn D Resort is conceived for families, and those with younger kids ages 11 and under will be most at home here. The protected beach and small water slides are perfect for young children. All-inclusive prices include snorkeling trips, kids' programs, and water sports. Best of all, every family gets its own vacation nanny for its entire stay. Runaway Bay is on the island's north coast near Ocho Rios.

    The big draw for families at Rose Hall Resort is the private water park with water slides and lazy river through lush tropical landscaping. This resort offers plenty of water sports and a thousand feet of sandy beach. Tour the historic Rose Hall Great House, nearby. Golf is a specialty here, giving guests access to 54 holes.

    Holiday Inn SunSpree is a brand of family-friendly resorts that includes several properties in the Caribbean. Not all have all-inclusive pricing, but this budget-friendly resort in Jamaica does. Location is near Jamaica's main airport and the popular town of Montego Bay. Features include kids club and nursery, and kids 11 and under stay, play, and eat free.

    Beaches Negril also offers outstanding features for families, including a partnership with Sesame Street. The location is prime, with 1000 feet of shoreline on Negril's legendary Seven-Mile Beach on Jamaica's west coast. Negril is excellent for snorkeling, and the resort has snorkeling boat trips to a coral reef, as well as scuba diving for ages 12 and up. Kids will like the water slides and river pools at this resort.

    Iberostar is a Spanish company with many resorts worldwide, including this large complex of three resorts located 20 minutes from Montego Bay: the Iberostar Rose Hall Beach, with its kids club; the Iberostar Rose Hall Suites, with family-friendly accommodations and lazy river; and the adults-only Iberostar Grand Hotel Rose Hall. Guests at any of the properties are free to use the restaurants and other amenities at all the resorts within the complex.

    Looking for a smaller, more intimate resort for your vacation in paradise? This laid-back property has just 266 rooms (about a quarter of which feature connecting rooms for larger families) yet offers plenty of fun for families, thanks to a terrific water park with a water slide and lazy river, a trio of swimming pools, clubs for kids ages 18 months through teens, a golf course, tennis courts, laser tag, water sports rentals, and a beautiful stretch of beach. Kids ages 5 and under stay and play free.

    The 416-room Riu Palace Tropical Bay in Negril is part of the Spanish chain well known for all-inclusive resorts. There are plenty of activities going on here for kids and families, from volleyball games and scavenger hunts to dance parties and bingo games. One of the nice things about this resort is that the beach is in a sheltered cove, so it doesn't get the strong waves you encounter at some resorts around the island, making it a particularly good choice for families with younger kids or inexperienced swimmers.
