Best Overall: ZIPOUTE Snorkel Mask Full Face

ZIPOUTE Snorkel Mask Full Face
What We Like
  • Won't leak

  • Camera mount

  • Anti-fog technology

What We Don't Like
  • Not good for swimming laps

  • Snorkel arm hard to detach

The ZIPOUTE Snorkel Mask Full Face is one of the highest rated full-face snorkel masks on the market. It offers superior comfort with a hypoallergenic silicone skirt that creates a leak-free seal around your face. The wide window allows for a 180º panoramic view that will never be obscured by fog, thanks to a separate breathing chamber that creates an airflow away from your main viewing visor.

The snorkel’s drainage valve is designed to clear out water quickly —simply lift your head above the surface to allow it to drain out of the valve near the chin. There are two sizes: S/M for petite adults and children over 10, and L/XL for larger adults. The mask comes with a camera stand , so you're also able to mount a GoPro and film everything you see, so you'll never forget it.

Best Budget: Ranersports 180º Full-Face Snorkel Mask

What We Like
  • Anti-fog feature

  • Optional Go-Pro mount

  • Comfortable

What We Don't Like
  • Bulky

  • Expensive

Because there are safety concerns associated with low-budget full-face masks, we recommend investing in the best quality mask you can afford. That said if you don’t have big bucks to spare, opt for a mask like the Ranersports 180º Full-Face Snorkel Mask which is backed by hundreds of positive user reviews. At just under $50, it’s by no means the cheapest mask on the market, but it does offer value for money without sacrificing safety. It has a panoramic viewing window, a dual chamber ventilation system and a Dry Top snorkel.

You have the option to add a GoPro camera, while the crystal silicone skirt lets in plenty of ambient light. The adjustable straps are made from non-pinching elasticated fabric. Choose from two sizes — S/M or L/XL.

What We Like
  • Multiple color options

  • Comfortable

  • Multiple sizes

What We Don't Like
  • Expensive

Those that like to film their underwater adventures will love the WildHorn Outfitters Seaview 180º Snorkel Mask. Unlike many other masks — which allow you to attach aftermarket GoPro mounts — this one comes with an integrated screw mount. This is the smart way to capture your snorkeling trip, as it leaves your hands free and reduces the likelihood of accidentally dropping your camera in deep water. The mask itself is good quality, with a high-grade premium silicone skirt and a polycarbonate lens and frame. The window offers 180º visibility and is kept fog-free by the mask’s dual chamber design.

Like other masks on this list, this one has a Dry Top snorkel and a one-way chin valve that drains any water with a quick tilt of the head. With molded plastic edges and soft, elasticated fabric straps, it’s also eminently comfortable and won’t pull your hair (a drawback often experienced with the plastic straps of traditional snorkel masks). It comes in S, M, and L, with colors ranging from aqua to sunset or sky. The snorkel detaches for easy transportation.

Best for Ease of Breathing: Deep Blue Gear Vista Vue Full-Face Snorkeling Mask

What We Like
  • Multiple colors

  • Easy to breath in

  • Fog-free

What We Don't Like
  • Runs small

  • Expensive

The Deep Blue Gear Vista Vue Full-Face Snorkeling Mask has two innovative features that help to deliver unparalleled ease of breathing. Firstly, the Dry Top snorkel features an extra-wide, single chamber tube with a multi-purge valve that increases incoming airflow by up to three times in comparison with other full-face mask designs. Secondly, two additional valves at the temples provide a separate exit path for exhaled air (instead of it being pushed back up the snorkel tube). CO2 buildup is reduced as the air has less length to travel and therefore escapes faster.

This mask is also fog-free, as fresh air is continuously directed across the inside of the polycarbonate window. It comes with a colored frame (choose from yellow, black, blue, red, or pink) and a crystal silicone skirt for a clear panoramic view. There are two sizes available: S/M and L/XL.

Best Foldable: Seabeast Full-Face Snorkel Mask

What We Like
  • Foldable

  • Fog-free

  • Anti-leak

What We Don't Like
  • Heavier

If you’re planning to take your full-face snorkel mask on an overseas trip, packing space is an important consideration. The Seabeast Full-Face Snorkel Mask is a great space-saver, with a foldable snorkel tube that locks neatly into place. The snorkel is also equipped with a Dry Top to prevent water from leaking into the mask. The viewing window is flat instead of curved, helping to eliminate distortion. It’s also treated with a hydrophilic anti-fog coating that is bonded with the polycarbonate and can’t be washed off.

Other highlights include a removable GoPro mount that attaches to the top of the mask and thick, soft, elasticated straps. There are two colors to choose from (black/blue and black/red) and two sizes (S/M and L/XL). This product is at the lower end of the price spectrum but is praised for its secure fit, crystal clear vision, and ease of breathing.

Most Innovative: HJKB Full Face Snorkel Mask

HJKB Full Face Snorkel Mask
What We Like
  • Easy to breath in

  • Camera mount

  • Anti-fog

What We Don't Like
  • Bulkier

The HJKB Full-Face Snorkel Mask arguably has one of the most unique designs: It comes with two breathing tubes that are intended to make breathing more smooth. The dual system also means that if there's a blockage in one tube, you'll still be able to breathe comfortably. Other standard features include a silicone skirt, a chin valve, and a GoPro compatible camera mount. Sizes come in S/M (generally intended for teenagers and women) and L/XL (for men). It can come in black, blue, white, or pink.

Best for Kids: Thenice Full Face Snorkel Mask Kids

Thenice Full Face Snorkel Mask Kids
What We Like
  • Kid-friendly design

  • Comfortable

  • Easy breathing system

What We Don't Like
  • Better for older kids

Just because this full-faced snorkel mask is made for children, it doesn't mean that it's not still high quality. Made of medical grade silicone, it's comfortable enough that your kid will actually wear it. Plus, the leakproof dry-top system (there's a ball near the top of the snorkel that keeps the air valve securely sealed when underwater) means no water is going to sneak in, which is a plus for anxious swimmers. The Thenice mask also comes with a 180° lens, making it easier for kiddo to explore the water and spot their favorite fish. If that weren't enough, it mask comes in kid-friendly designs (that also make them highly visible), including a hippo, sharks, and some crocodiles.

Final Verdict

The leak-free seal of the hypoallergenic silicone skirt already qualifies as one of the industry’s best options, but the simply to use drainage valve and GoPro mount really helps this full face snorkel mask go the distance. However, even the smallest size is going to be too large for a child. If you're shopping for a kid, opt for the Thenice mask. It has all the bells and whistles of the adult masks (minus the GoPro mount) and is easy to use.

FAQ

Are full face snorkel masks dangerous?

Full face snorkel masks received a fair amount of press a few years ago after some poorly designed iterations lead to excessive CO2 buildup. Breathing in too much CO2 can lead to headaches, dizziness, and unconsciousness. That being said, CO2 can also build up in normal (but sub par) snorkeling tubes, as well. The best thing you can do is properly research any potential purchases, making sure it's high-quality and is made by trusted brands. It's also important to know how to use your mask and it's always a good idea to snorkel with a buddy, just in case.

Can you breath underwater with a full face snorkel mask?

No. Like regular snorkel masks, when you're using a full face mask, you're breathing air from the surface through the tube. Though it's larger, it doesn't store extra air. It's actually more challenging to do free diving with a full face snorkel mask than a regular mask, because the additional face covering makes it hard, if not impossible, to equalize.
